It would be nice if there wouldn't be loaded ANY samples during the real startup phase. This might mean the startup time would get down to maybe 30 seconds (don't know exactly how much the sample total loading time is .. anybody an idea?)

Then after initialization the keyboard would respond to every button slider and key playing, however, since there are no samples loaded you wouldn't here anything. However meanwhile, all samples should be loaded (or all that are selected). If you select a program or combi, those samples loading would have priority (in case they are not loaded yet). For the rest, just all selected samples would be loaded WHILE the keyboard is responsive and up and running.

It's not that difficult to make if loading the samples and playing and/or pressing buttons can be handled by the CPU/memory etc at the same time.

The only downside is that during the first minute(s) the samples might not all be loaded yet so there can be a very small delay (except for the 4GB smples that take a bit longer to load maybe).

If not you can add them using the Add KSC button on the lower left. Set up your unit to preload the ones that you want for now. Later when you add and then save your custom samples you'll be making another KSC file of your own and you can add it to this list and check it to have it load along with the Factory KSC files of your choosing.

That's the problem...the individual libraries are not listed there unless I add them from the Extras folder. That's what I did the first time when I ended up with only 62MB free. Maybe there's a bug with preloading that doesn't exist when loading after boot?

I think i need a quick walk through of how to autoload without running out of ram.

I have more rame free when I load the preload than when I only load all except, exs2 concert grand, rock drums, jazz drums.

That is strange?

Not yet...I'm away from the keyboard today.

Logically this could happen if the Load method is different from the Preload... i.e. some titles are loading into RAM instead of Virtual memory. ALL of my EXs banks are loading into Virtual Memory. Check yours using the Sample Manage Tab in Global Mode, Basic.

Beyond that a real Korg staff member will have to get involved.

Thanks for trying to help out, Jerry. I told it to preload the individual EXs libraries using the load method stored in the EXs files (which defaults to virtual RAM if they're loaded from the Preload.pcg file, so I just assumed it would be the same). I'm sure we'll get this figured out soon.

A couple things to double check:

1) Load method, VM vs RAM. Data loaded into RAM will definitely take more space than using the VM load method.

2) The preload.ksc that is loaded by system default doesn't have all the multisamples from every EXs bank in it, some were excluded (EXs2 entirely, the Acoustic Pianos from EXs4, etc) to make it all fit with room to spare for user samples. So if you removed preload.ksc file and then added each KSC file from all the EXs banks (minus a couple you know you don't want), you could very well end up with less memory available than when you had just loaded the preload.ksc before.

Well, that might explain what I'm seeing, thanks!

I've only used up 98MB of the available 148MB (or whatever it is by default with preload.ksc) so I'm ok for now. If I need more, I might be able to leave out the Japanese grand too.

It sounds to me like the best method to remove the drums in EXs8 and 9 would be this:

1. Load the PRELOAD.KSC file (or just start up the machine if that KSC is set to load at startup).

2. Unload EXs8 and EXs9 on the Global 0–4: Sample Management page (see below).

3. Save the resulting KSC file (see "Creating and saving .KSC files" in the Operation Guide).

4. Optionally, un-check Auto-Load for PRELOAD.KSC, and auto-load your newly created KSC file instead.

Unloading an entire bank of data

You can also un‐load an entire bank of data at once. To do so:

1. In the menu, select the Unload all in bank command.

The Unload all data from selected bank dialog will appear.

2. Select the desired bank (RAM or any EXs).

3. Press the OK button to confirm, or Cancel to exit the dialog without making changes.
