Hooking Up KP3/KP2 To Vocals

I'm sure this has been done to absolute death but I'm having trouble hooking up vocals to the KP3/KP2 and sampling on the fly and then manipulating said samples.
What I do is I put an XLR-to-1/4" adaptor into the mic input of the KP3 (so Microphone to KP3), then a 1/4" inch from the Phono line to the PA output. While it works, we get a really annoying buzz that makes everything sound like crap. Think like a louder version of a 60-cycle-hum of a single-coil pickup. Just wanna know, how do YOU guys use vocals with the KP3 and do crazy fun sample stuff??
I'm thinking maybe we should do something with the Line In/Line Out but I'm not entirely sure what we can do. We want to be able to have the dry signal for the vocals and then have me sample it and mess with the samples. Similar to 'Everything In Its Right Place' by Radiohead. Check it out here:
