KORG PS60 vs KORG X50

Discussion relating to all other KORG synth related products that don’t have a dedicated section. For example, OASYS PCI, M1, N Series, 01W series, T series, and more…

No, it's not possible to replace the samples on a R(ead)O(nly)M(emory)pler. All they did was design programs around the existing samples. Every sound they did can be done by anyone who knows how to program the synth to produce those instruments.

What is the scale box they speak of?

Starting off at home, but possibly live later.
Well, my advice (if you are planning on playing live at some point) would be to look for a used Triton or M3. Both would be much more roadworthy that either the X50 or PS60, and offer many more features.

However, I still recommend playing both keyboards you originally asked about, then audition something a bit more expensive to see the difference in build quality. I've owned the original Korg Triton for almost 11 years and it has held up well both in the studio and on the road.

So much I know, you can create custom scales within any program or performance.

I would really like an M3 if I could afford it. Affording the X50 or PS60 is only possible because of a 3 month payment plan. I could save up and get something better but it would take forever as I can only save at the very most about $200 a month. With that 3 month payment plan it's play as you pay, so they ship the item upon the first payment.

No problem, just a suggestion. :D

For your information though... you should be able to find a used Triton for less than $600.

Hey,
Interesting conversation going on here.... I bought a PS60 3 months ago as I was fed up lugging about my Triton Rack amongst a rack of a few other modules including a Sound Canvas and a Kurzweil Micro Piano plus a controller.

I went for the PS 60 as it's ridiculously light and possibly the most simple and cleverly thought out synth I've ever used to layer stuff (piano with a 2nd rhodes and strings can be done within half a second before moving back to a single piano at a single button press). The EQ on the front panel is a genius idea as is the volume knobs for the different sounds.

That said, I still use the Triton in the studio as the sounds in it are a zillion times better/fuller than the PS60.

If you've only got to have one synth, go for the Triton every single time as, even though it's over a decade old, it is a truly stunning piece of gear. You will have to consider the slight weight in it (including a decent flight case for it!)

If you want a no-nonsense synth with enough giggable sounds for day to day use, go for the PS60. The factory preset brass sounds on it are criminally bad though and the organs are average!

Ohh, I had a wee look there for world type sounds and can't find any. That said, have a look at the patch list on the Korg site (
http://www.korg.co.uk/downloads/ps60/do ... EFGSJ1.pdf) and remember, as someone said above, you can kid the synth into thinking a sound comes from another bank to layer them. I did it for brass almost immediately

That list of voices for the PS60 looks pretty nice. I thought the PS60 uses sounds from the M3, which is better sounding than the Triton isn't it?

I could save up for a Triton although I would hate the wait, but almost all of them on ebay have some sort of problem or damage. :(
