Data backup to CD - finalizing disc?

Hi all:
Giving my O the love it deserves after being distracted by my other 'boards!
Been busy doing some housekeeping and backing up patch and sequence data to CD, which is very handy. After a RTFM moment, I discovered that the CD-R needed to be formatted first, but having copied data to it, does one need to "finalize" the disk?
Can it actually be read on a normal PC / Mac?
Any tips gratefully received!

Never tried it to be honest but from the manual it says that a CD-R and CD-RW can be read on a PC which has packet software installed and/or UDF reader - whatever those are!
Okay, just tried it for myself as was curious!
Saved a combi.pcg. Formatted and then burned to CD-R. Inserted in PC which can see the pcg file but says there's an error if I try to open or copy it.
Back to the O. Disk menu, converted to ISO 9660 format. Back to PC. Worked. Can be read and copied.
BUT! File is full of meaningless characters...!
Hope that helps a little...

Thanks Cello - I was wondering if it was the ISO thing.
I don't want to actually read the file as such, as there's probably nothing else that will read an O PCG, apart from a Sound Editor, but I just want to be able to copy stuff off for backup purposes.
Though I know I could just use a USB drive...
Many thanks!

You're better off backing up to USB media (stick or portable HD), then take that to your computer.

Thanks EJ2 - yes, most probably. I just thought I'd make use of the CD drive as it's there.
Cello: I couldn't get anywhere with the ISO reformat option - it just seemed to wipe my CD and then I couldn't do anything apart from reformat it back to UDF, so don't know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
