I look at the photos and I drool
I hear the sounds and *censored*
But now Kronos is out also , and I just joined here but it looks like everyone is mad about Oasys being snubbed and repackaged into Kronos
Is this a decent buy now that Kronos is driving down the Oasys price a bit? Im worried about the no future expansions etc but really do think it's a future classic , actually I dont care if it's a future classic I like it
Any thoughts on this?

I will problably get flammed here (this is the OASYS forum after all) but here goes:
I think you should get a Kronos. It will cost you less, of course at loss of some hardware features like the pads, the LED, the CD-RW drive and more I/O. But you'll get 2 additionals engines and also getting the MS-20EX, PolysixEX and MOD-7 EXi for free where on the OASYS they are paid upgrade.
Another feature that is really underlooked when comparing both machine is Smooth Sound Transition. If you uses a succesion of combi when playing songs, the OASYS cuts the sound when switching but not on the Kronos. I have a Karma Workstation and it find it very distracting and not musical when I switch combis.
As for availability in Montreal, Italmelodie website state they are getting the Kronos in Late July and Steve's Music (where I preordeded) told me August. So for Canadian/Quebecers customers, we have left waiting and not really known when we will get our Kronos.

yea now i started reading all these complaints about copying and pasting settings for patches......oh my
i think the oasys sounds amazing though and kronos too - ill have to do some playing in store and check it out. That wait is probably good for me it will give me more time to demo other products actually.
I have an Andromeda so was thinking of getting a workstation to do everything else

There are those of us in here, who cherish the Oasys, and irrespective of the price of the kronos causing hiccups to resale values, doubt many will now sell them on.
If your blown away by the Oasys and love the sound, forget getting yourself an oasys based on whether it will reach classic status, you have to weigh up the more logical options...which as an Oasys owner myself would say go for a Kronos.
As much as the Oasys resale values have slumped your getting far better value for money with the Kronos, you have extra engines and also ones you need to pay to authorise inside the Oasys if you happen to get one that the owners never did pay to unlock.
The Oasys may look nicer, and be a bit more rock solid in terms of build but it may just as well cost you the same to get a secondhand Oasys for just under the price of the 61 key plus buying a Kronos your getting a warranty, whereas Oasys's are now out of that grace period so buying an oasys in the hope it may not malfunction might be false economy.

KRONOS is (as far i'm aware of) essentially the same. The resolution is better on the KRONOS, (480 PPQN from 192 on the OASYS). and 24 bit Audio recording (from 16 bit on the OASYS).

If I had neither I would buy a new Kronos as opposed to second hand Oasys (this assumes that I would not be aware of Korg's insatiable appetite for breaking promises)......
Can't imagine why anyone would be bothered trading an Oasys for a Kronos. Kronos has a few more sound engines but in terms of overall usefulness that's about it as far as I can see. Kronos has basically the same restricted sequencer software which probably won't be updated during it's relatively short future-unproof existence in the shops.
Plenty of Kronos downsides like less outputs, no pads, smaller screen, no function button.....etc. which mean Oasys users should stay with what they've got rather than just line Korg.com's pockets for a nicer piano.
I predict Korg will bring out a Korg M4 next with a very slightly improved sequencer plus all the sounds of a Kronos.
And then in a couple of years a new flagship workstation (completely unrelated to Kronos but with the same engine and marginally improved sequencer) called the Korg Konned-us.
I'm off back to my padded cell now.....

Love it! Gave me a great laugh
I agree with your thoughts about K v O.
Given the way it's turned out with the Kronos your prediction sounds remarkably logical and likely

In addition dont forget difference (for me critical) in display size.
And one thing more- Sound of OASYS is better!

The Oasys is also a brilliant midi controller probably one of the best , wish people talked about that more . Just midi it up to a computer and your in business .The Oasys can also be used like a mixer with 4 channels of analog in .

It cannot be better, it's same software running through the same DAC. There is no point at which difference could be possibly introduced.

It's really better! I can't explain why, but if you have (as I) both of them in the same studio you can hear difference pretty clear.
I've recorded wav files from the same combi's-even in this way you can here the difference.
