Help --- damper pedal suddenly sending multiple 127 values

Post by dhjdhj »

I've been trying to track down some "stuck note" issues that I'm encountering in my live rig. After putting a MIDI Monitor on the OUT of my Oasys, I discovered that when I press the damper pedal, the Oasys produces a sequence of anywhere from four to six repeated 127 values for the same "Hold (i.e. 64) CC number. Only one 0 is produced when I release the pedal.

At first I thought this was a bug with the new version of Apple MainStage but I disconnected MIDI IN completely and am just monitoring MIDI OUT with an iPad MIDI monitor.

Any idea why this might be happening? I'm aware of the "half-damper" issue that some people have seen but that typically produces values other 127.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
David

Not much experience with the midi side of things but have you tried re-calibration of the half-damper through Global?

Yes --- that was the first thing I tried --- had absolutely no affect.

You do have the damper pedal plugged into the damper input, right? It sounds like maybe its plugged into the pedal input; normally used for expression pedal. just a thought.

Definitely plugged into Damper input.

For curiosity, I also tried the Foot Switch input and observed the same problem.

I thought the problem might have been with the pedal but I tried several other pedals (that work fine on other keyboards) and saw the same results.

Is this the issue where the polarity of Korg sustain is reversed to the pedal you migth be using - so go to the global page and revearse the polarity?

Nope --- using the Korg pedal that came with the Oasys.

I have however tried some other pedals and seen that reversal issue (I knew about the polarity setting in global and had tried them) but that just reversed the sequence of data that I saw --- in other words, I would expect that reversing the polarity would just cause on/off to be 0/127 rather than 127/0

There should still only be a single MIDI event produced as I push and release the pedal.

Since the oasys uses many control components as the triton, i would suggest you take a look at a guide i posted on an issue regarding the sustain pedal.

since gravity can take its toll on a surface mounted jack, the solder may be coming lose by a small amount therefor causing hiccups.

Hmmm, thank you --- I will take a look at that.

Note that the pedal connector wire was cut and a new jack put on the end as that pedal, along with 4 other devices, got mounted on to a pedal board that connects through a harness. So it may indeed be a hardware issue.

Thanks,
D
