RonF do you record and edit automation on Maschine? I tried it once and immediately went back to Ableton.

And to try and keep this thread on topic......

No one has mentioned latency. I will soon be trying out my new MBP with Komplete 7, but I doubt it will match the immediacy of the Kronos for drums and other fast-attack sounds. I was originally thinking Kore 3 keyboard version plus Komplete7 plue RME UFX for low latency rompling. But Kore is now dead :(

And I am glad I had some money when Kronos was announced. It just couldn't hurt to have the top-of-the-line Korg workstation! Immediate ease of use for basic keyboard sounds. Everything else is gravy. Looking forward to playing with Komplete now that I have a laptop that can (hopefully) handle those plugins in my Live performance set. I will report back on the ease-of-use.

Kronos has 6-8 ms of latency. Not unlike your regular DAW with a fine-tuned machine.

Where do you get that number 6-8ms?

I was going to deny that at first because I run my DAW at about 8ms which works for most things but nor for drums, it's just a little too much.

But perhaps the Kronos is at 6ms. That could explain the ever-so-slight lack of "yes!" that I experience with the drums compared to what I remember on the M3 I demoed years ago. Would the M3 and/or Trex be operating at lower latency than the K?

There's got to be some other variables. 10ms would be extremely obvious and 8ms is not unnoticeable.

Round trip means audio in, through engine/fx, and out again. It's not the same as triggering notes from a midikeyboard or the internal keyboard.
Not saying the latency isn't there or even similar to the round-trip, but as far as I understand it, it's a different calculation to make.

EDIT: I just checked the link, should've done that before, sorry. I don't think this is round trip latency unless the round-trip is "sending midi from the computer and recording the audio from the Kronos into the computer". Which, since I don't see him specifying how he did it, might be influenced heavily by the computer and soundcard.

Thanks! I find it a little difficult to decipher what he means though. It seems he's quite thorough in his efforts, but he measured 9.6 ms for the piano? I played it and would DEFINITELY have felt that amount. I go crazy if my midi-based latency is higher than 7ms in my home studio. I didn't feel anything like that when playing it. Perhaps there is some delay in de Kronos midi input for some reason? Can someone confirm a feeling of sluggishness playing Kronos through an external keyboard?

Latency of a piano is 15 - 50ms. Some pipe organ notes can be 0.500ms.

I can't. I've been playing my Kronos through a MIDI controller 90% of the time since June 6th and it feels fine. Maybe ignorance is bliss.

My PC has been acting up lately so I wan't to get a MacBook. Will I see any benefit with the 2.0 v 2.3 chip. Is 4 gigs enough on the new Macbooks? Also, would you guys go SSD? Really expensive and I'm not sure 250 gigs will be enough with programs like Omnisphere taking up 50+ gigs.

Bruce, take a look at OWC (Other World Computing) http://www.macsales.com/

Look at their SSD upgrade options and their optical drive replacement kits. I have a 2.xx ghz MacBook Pro with 8 gigs of ram. Its a few years old now but I don't have any issues running Live, Maschine, Reason via Rewire, a Virus TI and recording the Kronos Audio.

Thanks. Might consider that route. So you think the latest MacBook 2.0 chip should be good enough? Spend my money on the SSD and memory?

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I think 2.3 Macbook with 4g ram and 512 gb SSD. Sound right?
