Vocoder on Kronos

Hey all,

I was wondering if those lucky few who already own a Kronos can enlighten me on the quality and usability of the vocoder. Specifically, I wonder how it compares to the Triton Extreme and the Radias/R3.

I have a Triton Extreme 61 with MOSS right now and the vocoder is crap. I had some vague hope that MOSS would have a decent vocoder in it but it doesn't, though there is some kind of vowel modeling. The vocoder in the Triton is an insert effect, and apart from the quality being quite bad (basically the only formant differences you hear are between "s"s and "all other sounds"), I have to route the audio globally which makes it useless for live performances.

I have heard the vocoder on the Radias and R3 and it is a massive improvement over what I've been getting out of the TrEX. However, if I'm correct this is part of their engine, not an insert effect.

So again, my question; how is the vocoder in the Kronos? Is it possible to bypass global audio routing per patch? Can you use it and still hear the words someone's saying?

Mike Conway has a couple of OASYS vocoder videos on YouTube... I would expect the Kronos would sound the same:

Hey thanks, I did try googling kronos+vocoder but not oasys+vocoder. Those are quite informative. At least it seems you can bypass the global audio routing, which is a dead necessity for using it live in between other sounds. Sound-wise, just from comparing the video and my memory of the Radias and experience with the TriEX, it seems somewhere in between the latter two. Does anyone have any hands-on experience with this?

*bump*
No-one ever compared the two? Is vocoding so out of fashion these days? :)

Well for us gothic metalists the vocoding is essential!
I use a Roland Vp-770, and Roland VP-7 module for traveling.

Now I've found on YouTube this talented couple who demonstrate how
To use the vocoder in the Kronos for a Choir sound.
Just that with their special talent, the quality of the vocoding sound
Isn't clear enough to understand if it can sound as fine as the Roland VP.

So this is the demonstration video on YouTube :

And these are my videos with the Roland VP-7 and VP-770:

I Have not yet got my Kronos, so if someone could check this feature with the choir sound vocoding and maybe even explain better how to get it done with a good sound.. Could be awesome! :) \m/

Have you tried the search function of this forum?

It would have returned the following thread, among many others:
...Reading the reference guide, the paramenters of the kronos vovoder are identical to the m3-radias.
This is not true.

The Kronos vocoder has only basic features like the vocoder effect of the M3 (without EXB-Radias). The Radias/EXB-Radias/R3 vocoder has much more comprehensive features.

The vocoder in the M3/Radias is a factor better than the effect.
I'm looking for something that works after selling an M3.
The Electro Harmonics v256 Pedal can. At $200+
Or the korg R3 at $300 +. Or the Radias module.
Vocoder is a rarified beast but it can do so much synthesis.
