freezing PA588

Well I wanted to hear the sequel to the "Freezing PA500" but the thread was locked. Did he ever get it thawed out?
I had a PA500 and now I have a PA588. I never had the freezing problem with the PA500. But the 588 I think I had it freeze twice now. Just today I had to power off and power back on. If this happens once every 3 months I'm not worried. I got the cheapest deal I ever saw on it pretty much brand new. I think 1500. delivered. I think I'm going to go ahead and register my purchase though. I hope its not too late to get in on a warranty if I need it. I have never needed a warranty on keyboards before.

Yes Paul, I did get it unfrozen, and I left instructions on this forum so that other pa 500 users could reset their own keyboards if they ever froze. Unfortunately, that geezer from down under blocked my posts. Subsequent posts of mine seem to have disappeared also. I wonder why. It looks as if posts on this forum are censored purely at the whim of this man. This is no way for an administrator to behave. Obviously he is going to read this and he will probably attempt to put a spanner in the works. Then you can judge his attitude for yourself. By the way, I noticed one of your videos on you tube. I went to you tube and looked for “korg pa500 pictures” and there was your video, right next to mine.

The "freezing" of your PA can be caused due to lack of internal memory.
Did you load a lot of styles?

PA500 (and also the almost identical PA588) can have this failure; I've had it once in the past.
The error-messages you get are unclear & (unbelievable!) the operating system doesn't monitor this (2011! "Don't let your instrument get outdated..." :evil: ).

Verify manually how much free space is available on your internal memory card.
If more than say: 95%, of your memory is full, empty some of the style slots and/or songbook entries you never use.

This may solve the problem (for me it did).

I can see why Korg doesn't want the sequence of service mode published. Too many curiuos keyboard players would want to see what happens under the hood and wind up blaming Korg after they messed up their machines.

I think I froze my keyboard up in song record actually, when I had style backing tracks running. So with the pedal down, it was probably an overload of midi information. I have a midi patch bay that freezes up when there is a feedback loop too.

These are really nice instruments when they're doing what they're supposed to do.
Every Korg Arranger I ever had has been really a nice piece of work.

Can you re-create this situation every time? I had a similar problem with an older Korg arranger relating to MIDI overload. I would have hoped that the current arrangers could cope with that without freezing or at least enable you to "panic-button" out of it.

Mr administrator, when you say some people had to return their keyboards at cost to themselves, was it because they messed around with their keyboards and then they couldn’t put them right because they didn’t have the reset information, or are you saying they had the information but it didn’t work? There is no reason for that reset information not to work. What are you saying. Oh, by the way, I am not a liar. Also you don’t need lawyers to use the British small claims court. You know what I’m talking about don’t you. Unfortunately, others don’t because you’ve deleted my posts, and you call me childish.

Mr administrator, There are probably four situations whereby PA500 users could encounter reset trouble. One - they pressed the wrong buttons inadvertently and the keyboard went into diagnostic mode, and once in diagnostic mode they made another wrong move . This is unlikely, but not out of the question. It was suggested on this forum that you had to be a bit of a contortionist to do this, but in fact, it can happen quite easily. (I’ve had to rewrite this next section to hopefully prevent you from going into delete mode, or lockdown) All you need is your left hand, your left arm and a pair of headphones resting on the keyboard. Now if you think about it, you will work it out. Two - they loaded corrupted data (as I did) and the keyboard became unusable without a reset. Three - they managed to get into diagnostic mode either deliberately or accidentally, and they had the wrong reset information. Four -they had the right info but were unable to apply it correctly. When you speak of users messing up their keyboards and having to pay to get them fixed, well if some users were given reset information by Korg but were unable to apply it properly, that means that their keyboards had become unusable before they asked for the information, so therefore, if they could not apply the information correctly they had no option but to pay. It may well have been that there were language difficulties, (there are probably PA 500’s in the foothills of the Himalayas and on the lower slopes of the Andes). In all four situations, a copy of the correct reset information would get them out of trouble if applied correctly (as it did for me). That’s what reset information is for, and if those unfortunates who had to pay, knew that reset information was freely available, forums just like this one would have helped them sort things out for free (which takes us full circle back my original post that you deleted, where you started shouting at me in your big red letters). All the other later models have resets, why not the pa500. Only KKK can answer that (Korg Keyboard Kompany) and they’re not saying. I know that you are not going to allow reset information to be shown on this forum. I’ve known it ever since you started shouting at me with your big red letters. That bit doesn’t matter to me anymore because I can get round that. All I was ever trying to do was help other PA 500 users (this keyboard probably outsells the more expensive models by a ratio of 10 to 1 or more, across the world). For you to delete my posts when you don’t even remember what you’ve deleted, (small claims court) well that’s sloppy. Don’t just delete posts because that’s the easiest thing to do. Don’t just lock a topic because you can. The Korg company are a company that makes musical instruments. They are charging good money for their products. They are not gods and they are not so perfect that they never make mistakes. Your allegiance should be to the members of this forum first, and others second.

Bristol eh?

Been to a few concerts at the town hall - nice place but it had very bad acoustics for live bands then (was a big band). Do they still hold concerts there?

Went down through that way many times - a big big fan of the Wye Valley.
