Even having some kind of converter the speed will be limited to the speed managed by the Oasys interface.

Rgds.
SATA and SATA II use the same physical interface. Does the OASYS use PATA?

SATA II on left vs. SATA 1 on right:

Oasys uses PATA (ULTRA DMA 33/66/100 modes only - 133 not supported-).
You can look for more specific info looking at the motherboard's manual freely available on Internet (AOpen MX4GVR).

I don't have a 51 years old HDD for obvious reasons, but I do have a few 30 years old. Two problems with them: connectivity and reliability (mechanical problems plus surface/data errors - coating is not fully chemically stable). I need an ISA bus computer to read them, because nobody manufactures USB or PCIe MFM controllers... :)

So, 51 years sounds pretty OK to me, especially if I consider that writing 24 hours a day is hardly a reality, calculating with a more reasonable 8 hours raises lifespan to a respectable 150 years (and that's not the shelf life, but operating time). On the other hand I'm absolutely not sure about the 2m write cycles mentioned on that website (even though emerging flash technology seems to be capable of such endurance - once it comes out to the public).

So, I guess there's no other way but to live and see... :D

Haha synthjoe, me too. I also have old HDD's and an old PC with ISA to access them.
Nothing like using 5 mins to turn it on, and go make coffee, whilst waiting for Space Invaders to load......

Now, the Oasys, people are soooo finicky, next we'll be speaking about how many years it takes before the metal and plastic degrade into dust.

Seriously, the HDD in the Oasys is fine as it is, just leave it alone, it will surely outlive even the youngest of us here.........

Just go buy the Kronos, it aleady has the SSD, is cheaper and more engines et al :)

While I do see the benefits of going SSD, I have to agree, things are best left alone in this situation.

I just got a 17" MBP 2.3GHz, quad core i7, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD HD - and - it is shockingly fast. I've not had a good music computer for a few years so I was a bit out of touch with how good any current computer is, but I have been shocked by how stunningly fast this.

If I click on iTunes, the application is running faster than I can take my finger off the mouse pad.
Drooling here...!!!
Yeah, got to get myself a SSD. I was watching video clips of people running them on YouTube. Seems to be the best investment around when upgrading an PC.
