Drum Track Volume

Post by panrixx »

Sorry for what might seem a very basic question but what is the best way to globally set the drum track volume and save that setting. Each time I select drum track at the moment it seems to be on maximum.

Currently, I am selecting (for each program) Timbre/Track and adjusting the volume via Slider 3.

As you mention it:

For my taste nearly all drum track volumes on the Kronos are MUCH too loud in comparison to the active instrument patches.

I doubt there is a global setting, but it would be good to adjust these volumes generally with an OS update.

And while we are at it: I don't want to push it with another thread, but the long GM sound lists are NEARLY ALWAYS unwelcome to me while browsing sounds. They should definitely default to NEVER occur unless intentionally put active with a checkbock.

These two things are constant little bummers when working with the present OS.

OMG I agree with you on the drum track volume!! What gives??

In my silly Kronos video on youtube you can actually see me get shocked on how loud it is and I even comment about that.

I do hope they make it a global parameter because it's always shocking when you press that button. Though, is does sound good.
Too much equipment. What a bonehead.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if I select a program and then adjust the drum track volume and save it, that's what I get when I reselect the program again.

Isn't that easier than setting it Globally and then readjusting on some of the programs that aren't loud enough?

Maybe I'm wrong about this but I thought it would be preferable to be able to set the drum volume globally, for the hundreds of programs, and then re-adjust the few that are too quite - rather than the other way around.

From what I can tell, the default drum track volume is far too loud and swamps the sound level of the program.

It's just a matter of ones preference. They cannot satisfy everyones wishes.
Me personally, I'd much rather adjust per program and save as I like it. Many times I'll change the drum track kit and it changes also.. that would defeat the global adjustment..

A global setting could only be a starting point to adjust individually. But even that would help.

As it is now, there is practically no drum track I can use as loud as it is programmed: the loudness seems way out of proportion. And adjusting programs one by one, and by each Kronos user, is certainly not the most efficient way. Doing it ok once for all with a future OS upgrade, and then leave just some fine tuning to users, would probably be the best solution.

I'll have to go with Lou here. It's much more powerful to have it per program and doing it globally would defeat local settings no matter how you look at it. It's the same thing with karma on/off. Some people want global switches for that too. But either thing takes all of 5 seconds to fix; turn on drum track, move slider, press rec, then enter. It's only an issue the first time you try a sound anyway.

I still fail to see a good reason, why each of us should have to adjust drum track each and every time when using a new patch.

It should at least be roughly on a volume level fitting the rest.

That's the point, why not start from a reasonable level ,which is on a par with the main program level. Why have the default program level at 50% and all drum tracks at 100%? That makes little sense.

OK, each level can be set individually but why not have all levels approximately equal to start. That way many times no adjustments would be necessary.

Obviously, there are different opinions on this and there is nothing wrong with that. Maybe we should have a poll?

What if you turn down the volume in the drum program itself? I haven't tried it and yes I found it had to be adjusted.

Maybe you need to play harder? Not trying to be an ass, I just know I can have a rather heavy touch, even for a pianist, and never noticed the drum tracks being too loud. BUT, I still only tried it in the shop, so I'll bow to your expertise in this.

Try it at home or in a quieter environment, you'll certainly notice the imbalance between the dafault drum track and whatever your playing.

This is getting blown way out of proportion, this is why a fader is placed on the drum page.
This is why you have faders in the mix section.

I'm done here.. :)
