There. Just use this and bump when necessary. Not so hard to do.

alrite- so i'm trying to create this afrojack sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZFVLspxWc8&ob=av3e
starts at 1:30

I think the sound may be using a formant, but the formant is so mildly automated that i can't tell how its sounding so vocal. I hear no distortion, for some reason it reminds me of the monotron... i've tried syncing saw and square and using the eg to control cutoff and pitch, and i've gotten a little close to it, but it never sounds as hollow or vocal and the pitch doesnt quite bend right either...

overall i find so much going on in the sound that its hard to figure out, so far my best results have been using the Modulation sequencer, any advice on how to replicate this using either the arpeggiator modulation sequencer or just in general some method? it sounds simple... but it just can't be.

I find these buzzy distorted basses really hard to replicate:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp2KqZUCsBY
it starts at about :40 and gradually becomes more phased- i've been able to get the phasing part of it right, but the bass itself sounds really thin.... i cant make it buzz the way it does in this track... would FM work?
is there a sine in this btw?
I'm not with my synth right now so i can't really post my attempt, but i will later-

The sound sounds simple, but it sounds like its a collage of multiple basses at the same time which is the issue...

Microkorg XL library conversion for the R3?

Still working on my end. I have completed a little more than the first half. Wanted to see if anyone has the second half of the XL library converted to R3. Some of the patches are not an exact conversion because of the vert patches and instruments. Will post mine as soon as complete. Any input?

wind chimes

Im working on some ambient music and would like to create a wind chime sound. I realize this is more of a sample sound but I think it could be done on the radias with some noise. Anyone ever tried something like this?

You can usually figure out how to approximate these as close as possible by listening very careful to the original sound you want to create - what's the amp envelope like, try different oscillator and filter settings to get as close to the general timbre as possible. Then apply modulation if necessary.

I'm not a hundred percent sure on what you want the end product to sound like, but I don't really see it using noise... The radias does basic fm right? That is generally a good basis for bell-type sounds. Then have an amp envelope with no or very little attack and some release. Probably some resonance on the filter and keyboard tracking.
A high pass filter might help some too?

the noise would be for the wind

It would be easier to use two timbres. One for the wind the other for the chime. No sustain or attack on the amp for the chime. set a lower decay time for the filter so the highs end faster than the lows.

this would be a fun rpc to see if people could design it so a stronger breeze creates more frequent/louder chimes.

Axxim, if you catch this, lets bring rpc back :)

I've just about got it.the wind wasn't hard but im trying to get the chime less bell like. I may back down on the vpm and use a quick attack with a lot of decay and some reverb

sure, there are also pcm waveforms that are already bell timbres.

how do you make an orchestra hit using r3?

An orchestra hit is an extremely complex sound. Best bet would be looking for pcm waves that resemble a string section or orchestra. Then layer it with a cymbal or low drum sound maybe?

It's not really something you'll get very close to with a VA, in my personal opinion. Samples would be a million times easier, if it's an option for you.

"orch hit" or something. Make sure you're looking at the newest official XL library.

Any way to mimmic the PCM with the R3?

by Kernalsound
As you know I am in the process of converting the XL Library to the R3. What is the best way to mimmic the PCM with the R3? That and the vert patches pose somewhat of a problem. On the original XL library to R3 conversion I have about 30% that can not be exact conversions because of those two factors. Any advice besides upgrading to the Radias ? Id love to get one but maybe later.
