Dumbest question ever.. ESX-1

Post by rust »

I just got a 2nd hand ESX-1 from Guitar Center! Before you ask, yes I have started reading the manual. The issue I'm having is I can't get a song to play. I dont know if they were all erased some how or what. The samples all work and the synth/stretch parts do too. When I have a sequence and push play, the button blinks and nothing. Again, this might be the dumbest question ever. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I have an EMX-1 and didnt experience an issue like this. Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Have you checked that the clock isn't set to External?

Is it just Song mode you're struggling with or can you not play any patterns? When you select the drum parts, do they show up any lit steps along the bottom 16 keys?

Don't feel bad...the previous owner probably accidentally saved that setting - couldn't get it to work right thereafter - sold it to Guitar Center by assuming they wouldn't know how to test it - thinking he's scamming them by getting their money for broken gear - they indeed didn't know how to test it or fix it - which doesn't prevent them from reselling it because they sell broken gear all the time - at which point you bought it, hopefully at a reasonably low price. By coming here to the experts, you just proved you were the smartest one of them all, because you got it working with a little help, which is better than the prior owner and GC staff could do.

Several times I've found gear with settings that make it not "work" right, which I use to show to the GC salesman as an effective ploy to sell it to me at a huge discount off their current price. Basically I have them look up what they paid the buyer - which is usually the lowest price that they'll sell it for. They would rather sell something for no profit to clear it, than sell if for any loss. Within a minute after I get the gear home, I fix the settings and everything work fine (I tested all the functions in the store - by temporarily fixing the setting and not saving it).
