ESX Resampling problem

Hi folks, Im having an issue with resampling on my ESX. Basically I can enter resample mode with shift and record, set it to mono or stereo, press play and then stop. The sample then shows in sample mode as 'new sample'. This works fine. But then I have my ESX slaved to my EMX and want to resample using the play and stop buttons on the EMX NOT the ESX. This is because I have built a sequencer that can send midi start and stop messages within a sequence, along with cc's and any other midi message available. I want to be able to use these sequenced start and stop messages for resampling.
When I put the ESX into resample mode and press play on the EMX, it starts playback on the ESX but it doesnt actually resample anything at all. I just get the screen thats waiting to resample and I have to then press stop to be able to do anything, which cancels the resampling mode.
