Hi there everyone,

Is anyone aware of a Tony Banks organ emulation for the Oasys? Might be a Prophet 10 emulation. I've heard it a few times, perhaps someone has it. Here's a sample:

Love Genesis, but wouldn't be a fan of Organ sounds at all. It's like trying to get excited about an Power Switch. They are something we all need to use at some point but that's about it.

And a power switch is much more useful than an organ sound will ever be... !

I used a real CX-3 when I was covering a lot of older Genesis. It's an easy sound to emulate and Tony originally did it on real Hammond.

Not even in Watchers of the skies? I think it sounds pretty neat. How about Keith Emerson? Same organ.

Well it's a Hammond L-122 used with a MXR Phase 100 and a Boss CE-1.

It's has a very distinctive sound. Nothing like a Hammond B3.

I wouldn't know the first thing about creating that sound. I did try playing around but I could do that for 3 months without getting anywhere.

Just checking if I could be lucky enough to find someone who would already has it.

Whilst I think the organs in ANY keyboard are a total waste of electricity (and engineering design time), there is a user here - TonyGen - who did a lot of work on the OASYS with Genesis covers.

I bet he'd be able to give you some pointers...

I'm glad there are good organ sounds in my Kronos ... I have played with a real hammond and leslie on stage, and alltough nothing can beat it (not even a Kronos), I'm glad I don't have to take it with me because of:
- always needed to rent some car (van) to transport it
- you need 4 people to get it on stage
- you cannot play on a stage that is not on ground floor
- you need 4 people to transport it back to the rehearsal room
- they are mostly old and tend to break or not work 100% as expected
- they take up a lot of space which is mostly limited on small cafe/bar stages
- setup time for the microphones takes extra time
- 2 or 3 additional mixer inputs are needed, resulting in needing a 24 input table instead of 16 (at a minimum)

So there are limits for having the best possible sound.

The Hammond XK serie appears to be a good trade off.

Sorry, it's just one of those sounds that you can hear in a million other songs too, so err.... it's impossible to get excited about it. It's just an Organ. It's as exciting as using a snare drum in a song to me.

Now, if you had to mentioned their heavy use of a mellotron, now that would get people excited.

Yes true, I have had the XK1 ... reliable and almost as good as the real one. However, I sold it since I didn't like the waterfall keys for non organ parts.

I know it's logical, however I didn't want to have 3 keyboards so I downgraded in tone quality (until I got the Kronos).

Genesis did some very cool things. I like a variety in keyboard flavors, not just the B3.

Yes I know what you mean. It's not that I'm really excited about it, but I have to admit that I like how it turned out in Genesis, I'm more excited about getting it right.


Mellotrons. Always had a soft spot for these. Must have purchased every single pluggins that has the word tron in it.

I had my eyes on the Xk3c for a while now, lots of improvements in each version to get "that" hammond sound right.

Still debating if I want to shovel another keyboard around. Be nice for gigs though.
