Problem with formating SD card on KP3
Hello guys !!
I ve just bought a second hand KP3 on the web, and i want to use it to store different beats on the SD card and play guitar and bass along to it....live.....I ve read the manual which says i have to format the sd card inside the kp3 only, in order for it to be recognise and work properly....
So i got myself a brand new sd card and did the manipulation on the kp3 (Hold "shift" + bank 1 CARD button and then use the program bpm rotary knob to select infos from the sd card.....problem is notings happening when i turn the program bpm knob (clockwise or counter clockwise...)
.....it only says "card" on the screen, and its flashing.....i dont have access to any "free" "info" or "form" with this knob, like they say on the manual....Neither do i get a "err" message on the screen, it just keeps flashing with the mention "card"....
I dont know what to do to sort this problem out and use my sd card with the kp3....the dude i bought it from said he never used a sd card with the kp3 at all...he doesnt know what the problem is...and me neither!!!
Any help out there guys?? i would really appreciate !! i just hope the problem doesnt come from the kp3 itself.....is there a way to re-initialize the kp3 and start from scratch maybe ??
... thx in advance!!
peace!
G

Yes i did read all the manual...indeed !!!
I ve used 3 differents blank sd cards of 2GB each, and i still end up with the same problem : nothings happen apart from the mention "card" flashing on the screen...
i ve noticed theres different classes for sd card ( i have class 2 and 4) but i dont know what that correspond to....whats your opinion?? does the kaoss pad really works with any sd card brand and class, in between 16MO and 2GB capacity???....
regarding the sd card voltage, i have no indication of that on the packaging....even tho korg says 2.7-3.6V, i dont know exactly on what power supply voltage my sd cards work...
Heeeeelp, please.....thx!

...you might not understand my problem dude...as it says on the manual, when i hold shift + bank 1 (card), im then supposed to scroll with program/bpm knob to access "form" (formating).....or any other infos i need to get from the sd card....(as i explain on the 1st post)...
i dont think that because my screen is flashing with the mention "card", it means that the kp3 is formating the sd card....i should access to "form" prior of that, but i cant.....

It may sound as a stupid question, but did you put the card all the way in? It looks like your KP3 doesn't recognize the card at all.
When I first plugged an SD in I noticed it goes deeper into the KP3 then I thought, when I first put it in it clicked and then it goes even a little further and clicks again, it's almost fully inside now so try pushing it a little further in.
Or else do you have an other SD card to test maybe?

ok guys thx for your answers, but i ve finaly worked it out....!!! i took the kp3 apart and cleaned it....i didnt want to open it in the first place, but i had no other choice....that was getting on my nerves.....so a bit of screwdriver action and i just cleaned the sd card reader as carefuly as i could, and boom....!!! the kp3 was then recognizing my sd card and i was able to formate it....apparently the dude i bought it from didnt store the kp3 correctly, and with time, dust and other s**t came inside it i guess and mess the sd card reader up...anyway more fear than damage so its all good...!!
Now im fighting a bit with the kp3 to make him recognise and play the beats ive uploaded to the sd card from my computer....so far i havent manage to re upload the stuff in the kp3...when i plug the kp3 with the usb connection onto my computer, it recognise the sd card, then i just drag the files i wanna copy into it....but i cant play them after from the kaoss pad...im realy following what the user manual says tho, but at the end i end up with "err" message......it might be a question of file names (between 0 and 99)....the files i wanna store are all .wav or .aiff....
any advice please??

You can't use many audio files directly. They usually need to be the right format and length for looping. If you download the Korg KP3 Editor software, it has an import function that lets you load audio files directly onto the KP3 through the USB-midi port, then you can save them to CF using the software. Often the audio files need to be modified in Audio editing software to get a clean loop by normalizing the signal to match at the loop point, or you'll get a pop/click every time it loops.

All right thx guys !! i ve finaly managed to load the .wav files from the sd card to the kp3....it was a file naming problem yeah! all good now!!
The thing i hadnt realized is that you cant save all the wav files on the kp3 once uploaded from the sd card....too bad!!! ...i have to call them one by one when i need them (1 for each song basicaly), and obviously the kp3 puts them automaticaly on loop mode....
I thought the kp3 was able to play the whole file from top til end, no matter how long the wav file is...and without looping it!! but apparently you cant do that with a kp3 ...right??
Another question too : whats the maximum length (in minutes) you can upload on the kp3 when it comes to wav files ??? the manual doesnt really says anything about that....is that possible to upload a 5 mins wav sample, and to play it entirely without being looped by the kp3??
I use logic to edit my samples (cut them right, eq them if necessary and make sure theres no clickin or stuff) and then i drag them straight to the sd card on the computer.....and it works good!! i havent heard any pop/click when the kp3 is looping it.......
eventhough i understand that its probably a bit faster to use the kp3 editor software to load wav files directly to the kp3 (via usb port) and save them after on the sd card....but im used to my logic way of working my samples.......thx in advance for the infos!!!

The KP3 can only load and play samples that are measured in seconds, not minutes. It can sample 16 beats worth of music, based on the BPM that is set the amount of time will vary. So at 120BPM, that's about 8 seconds of music before it loops, since each beat takes 1/2 a second. The KP3 can only play samples that it can fully load into RAM. It cannot stream samples, so it can't play long samples larger than it can load all at once.
You are really missing out on how to fully use the KP3 if you don't use the editor software. You can much more easily load up samples with it and you can see how they get imported. After you load up samples, you can save them to the SD card with the Save All Data function as 0.KPA, and then the KP3 will automatically load them when it starts up. That could make it a lot slower to boot up, since it loads all that data first.
The KP3 isn't a music player. It's a sample looper. If you want to play long samples, such a complete backing track, you need something else like the SP-404, which is great at playing long files, but not so great for looping.

All right xmlguy, thx for all the infos man!!
So i ve installed the usb/midi drivers, then the kp3 editor software (version 1.0.4 from the korg cd rom), uploaded my wav sample into it, putted it at the right position in lenght and tempo, and use the "transmit" button to send the file to the kp3....works fine yeah!!
The only thing is, i havent managed to transmit more than 1 .kpa file at a time to the kp3.....is that possible with the editor software?? i ve created a folder on my desktop to store all the .kpa files (once ive uploaded and converted my wav file 1 by 1 inside kp3 editor software)... then i choose "all transmit"...it does something different than just pressing "transmit" button....but then i cant find my samples on the kp3....am i using the right method to transfer more than 1 .kpa file to the kp3?? or do i have to stick with the 1 by 1 file transmit method??
Also when im loadind the imported sample onto my sd card (with the kp3 itself), im doing this with "smpa" function...
I havent managed to save the .kpa files to the sd card with the save all data function...as a result, the kp3 cant load them up automatically as you said...i have to load the sample i wanna use everytime from the sd card.....can you load more than 1 sample at a time?? Could you explain me what im doing wrong?? thx...
