K61 goes out of tune while playing in program mode!

Post by DennyC »

With great sadness, I am being forced to confront this issue. The problem happens two ways. 1. When I am playing in program mode and pull up a program...let say the distortion guitar patch and I use the joystick to xy a note at the end of a simple line--it will either throw the keyboard out of tune, up or down a whole or half tone, or it will even wobble notes when I have pulled my hands off the keyboard.

While on the phone with Korg, I midi'd the out of the Oaysis to the in of the K61 and bingo...while playing it does the same thing. Max at Korg tells me to take it to an authorized repair center or wait until the o.s. update is here.
Either way, I'm not too pleased.

Any suggestions? (Please don't tell where I can go...
 ) :)

I would definitely give 1.5 a shot before bringing it to a service center for long term parking. Dan said it is coming soon which is almost like an update.

I would also go with a factory reload also, don't forget to save what you have re new edits and so on first.

Thank you guys for your responses. I do think the wiser course of action would be to load the 1.5 first although I am very tempted to have them tear it apart and see if one of the connectors if loose. It did travel from Ca to my work here in Az.

It is just the most bizarre thing with the joystick and everything. I go a long way back with Korg and I have never had a problem with any Korg period.
BTW, I've never had a physical problem with any other manufacturers board either. As some of you mentioned in another thread, I am also getting the intermittent sudden decrease in volume scenario.

If it were my Oasys, I would remove a couple of screws and get 'er done already. It is pretty obvious with this board they don't want you to get into it yourself. :)

Ouch, that reminds me of my very costly joystick problems I had with my Oasys..

Fact is, I experienced something similar with my Kronos the other day: some parts of a combi were out of tune, as if the joystick movement had been stuck right or left from a previous combi.

Moving the joystick didn't help, I had to go to program mode, move it (as if to neutralise it), and then back to the combi.

Hope these are software issues.

Maybe calibration would help?..

Thanks Curvebender! You nailed the problem. What is frustrating is in the song I"m working on. I have a simple melodic lead line I would like to put on a midi track utilizing the "distortion guitar program". It is a ballad, and when I play the 6 note phrase, I want an x y bend on the last note--then it throws the whole board out of tune.

p.s. I would like to know how you solved your problem in the Oasys. PM me if you would be so kind. Thanks. :)

I had this with my Karma twice. Those internal pitch bend leads were notoriously bad, and mounted in a way that put stress on them whenever you used the lever. The second time I opened it up I just resoldered the (broken) lead and tried to guide it so that it wouldn't get strained when you moved the lever. Never broke again. It sounds exactly like that issue (or a loose connector). But opening it up that far when you're still very much within warranty seems a shame, even it'd turn out to be an easy fix.

Joystick wiring problem

Post by simajanpa »

On my TEX76 the whole board was pitch bending all by itself one day.

Opened the thing up and found that one of the wires on the joystick 3 pin connector was broken off. Korg does not have a replacement part anymore. I found an equal sized pin, resoldered the wire on and I'm good to go. Still love to get a new replacement part, but that doesn't look good.

I too have had every Korg workstation sinse the M1 and this is my first issue ever. Hate to say it, but looks like QC may be going a little south with Korg, as with most other manufactures of most consumer goods these days.

Just thinking today. I had a Roland xp- 80 for 15 years and thousands of gigs. UP until last year I was still using the same disk drive and disk for
cock tail hours, never a problem. Poly six. Never a problem. Old synths from the 80's until now. Solid!!!!

Kronos 73 bad keybed, had to go... Now I'm reading about all these other issues!! What happened? I had an old pro scan tv that lasted 20 years... No problem, now I hear about HD sets dying in less than 10"years.

It seems the more complex these machines get, the more prone they are to all sorts of issues.

Anyway, my K 61 is holding up fine so far. Just need to find a way to get it to sound as good as it does in the studio on gigs.

Happy thanksgiving to all.
