Just, something that apeals to my ears........
I can imagine that ... question is if the tape strings sound good .. but the effect probably sounds very nice.
Its a raw sample that sounds awesome IMO because it's meant to sound like an old fashioned sample, but it works. The term 'flaunt the imperfection ' comes to mind.

Yes I also use the tape string in one song that is from the 70s (Since you've been gone from Rainbow) and it fits quite well there.

I play symphonic Black Metal, and all my sounds are Strings based, and I use
the Roland VP-770, and my main is Korg Karma (Triton sound engine) with the EXB-PCM 6+7 orchestral expansions. And I also have Roland modules SE-1 and OC-1, and a few more keyboards and modules..
anyways, my MAIN is the Karma, and it has with the expansions dozens upon dozens of stings sounds, and amazing as I've heard in no other synth except for the godly OASYS/Kronos.
I mean, the only thing sounds better than Triton with orchestral expansion, is Kronos!

I don't know about that Silky sound, but I guess it can be programmed or sampled.
When I'll get my Kronos I can check if I can make such sound for you maybe :)

maybe you did not read the fine print in the Kronos manual; "No Strings Attached".

If you want low sample rate, low bit rate, strings, don't be disappointed, resample them yourself into the Kronos. :D

(There maybe strings attached to symphonic Black Metal, don't worry this too could be "ironed" out.)

Using the Motif XS and a couple of free expansions for it available as my "bar", I don't find the strings in the Kronos Impressive. To be honest, they're barely on Par with a workstation released in 2007 (half a decade ago). That's not saying much!

Do they suck? No. Are they "Brilliant"? Hell no.

I look forward to the Strings Expansion. I think it's an appropriate addition to the sound Palette for Kronos. Also, since they are an EX they will have sample streaming and shouldn't gobble up too much memory.

Now if we can get some MOTOWN and LATIN horns rockin, the Kronos would truly be untouchable provided there was also an EX to fix the horrific guitars.

I PRAY that USERS will have access to the streaming technology. I would practically KILL to make Libraries and not have to deal with Loops or at least only on occasion. Not to mention the memory savings allowing that many more sounds.

I don't know of any workstation or synth of the last decade which delivers better strings, and there's plenty of choice in the Kronos strings, including some nice string pads from the VAs. With use of the filters and effect settings it's pretty easy to find something fitting and tweak it to your liking.

So no, I don't see any problems with strings for standard tasks, and for the more specialised big orchestral contexts the new libraries from Korg and Karo are on their way. After that, I guess any other workstation or synth will rather look pale in comparison, concerning overall impression and detail of biiger orchestral stuff.

The Kronos is the best synth with strings I had, but I don't have same 'age' models from other brands, but they sound a bit better than on my M50.

Sounds, arpegiators and chords structures

Post by kronoSphere »

None sound is disapointing and habits too heard are of no use in music :
it will always be better IMHO to separate the arpegiators of their sounds cause they are too agreed: arpeggios associated with the piano sounds could be very suitable for guitar sounds, sounds of violins or even other created sounds. A good idea is to melt harmonies/chords together : all that opens mind toward new directions... :D
trees are going fast.

Kurzweil PC3 is the best for real strings at the moment.

I purchased my Kronos with no "strings" attached, cash deal.

Kronos is a lot better than the Arp String Machine, I used years ago.

But if you wanted the sound of an Arp string synth, the best machine to do it would be an Arp string synth!

I 100% agree with this statement. I'm constantly blown away at how lush and expressive the ensemble strings are in the PC3

Yes, they are lovely - just a shame i'm doing early 80s pop at the moment and not displaying them to their full potential!

I dont know how the JP80 stacks up in this dept...

I brought my JP8000 to a gig and forced the band to listen to all the brass and strings sounds that I created with it.
