Strings in Kronos are disappointing

Extreme and Triton had an excellent Patch (Silky Strings), Not finding an equivalent sound in Kronos. Can PCG from Extreme be imported ? Korg does drop some great sounds in newer models

Could not disagree with you more (sorry), the strings and orchestral sounds in Kronos are outstanding, and can be molded into a very realistic effect.
Regardless of what PCG you load into Kronos, the sound rom is the Kronos sound rom. But alas Kronos is a remarkable sampler. If you are unhappy, sample up!

I used some of the Orchestral combinations live and they sounded amazing. You know I like my PC3, but I think the combinations in the Kronos are very, very good. So dynamic and pure sounding.

It's all relative and what you want. I wouldn't use anything named "silky strings". That said, I commented early on that I find it a bit of a let down that they didn't use the disk streaming to do a nice library. Disk streaming revolutionized sampling tech a decade ago...and the Kronos implemented it for the pianos and some drums, but apparently left the strings and horns with the same pitch shifted, looped, single articulations from any decent ROMpler.
Hopefully Karo will fix that deficiency...but, I had to move, so I'm heavily invested in VSL and others that, from what I heard of the Karo Oasys library, are a whole different vibe.
What I DO like about the Kronos strings is that they went for some smaller more intimate sections. Frankly, The large sections are so homogenous by nature, that emulating them has been done well for years. I have a Roland SRX04 "symphonic strings" or the old East West libraries that are a couple hundred bucks that do the big gushy stuff well. Intimate is much harder. Kudos to Korg for recognizing that most pop music strings are not 70 piece ensembles, but a handful of each in the family in a medium sized studio.

I had a Triton LE, then Extreme, and I used to use STRINGS of SILK, I believe is the voice , in both. When I changed to M3, I could not find or create a sound close to it. I have just been through the Kronos, and yes you are correct, no similar sound. Unfortunate, but when I change synths, I tend to "start again" in sounds I look for, if similar sounds not forthcoming. But I have to agree, that Strings of Silk, is a very useful, "just the right sound" for certain circumstances. Cheers

I just got the Kronos and i found the strings are amazing. Probably suit my taste. but you can always do more with it. I mean, come on, it's a deep synth and presets just don't give the whole picture.

Also note, unrelated to strings...every synth I've ever owned has had some fabulous "goto" sounds that I can only kind of duplicate. Unless it's a sine wave kind of synth sound--if it uses PCM samples, you're going to get different sounds from board to board. That's why most of us who've been doing this a long time have built a collection of boards and/or modules.
I'm going to try to get rid of a lot of mine...when I get some time to sample some elements and import them into the Kronos...and build some pad stacks.
That's not a new phenomenon. I still have an old Roland D70 (circa, what 1990?). I literally just used it on a recent track...albeit with Atmosphere layered with it...I read someone here say something to the effect of "a synth is a synth"...ehh...not true. Sometimes, it's the lofi old tech that gave it a certain sound, too. Like the D70's "LA Synthesis"--taking a short PCM attack and attaching it to a generic waveform to create "emulations" that sound very little like what they were meant to emulate...but, were cool instruments in their own right.

I agree the strings on Kronos are brilliant and are the best I have had on any synth. But the discussion was about finding the Strings of Silk sound. It was a Program and there is not a sound replicating it on Kronos. I don't have a problem with that and love the better synth Kronos is for me. I was just answering the guys question, not critiquing Kronos.

I just use strings which I like with a song, if it is sounding like the original or not (and sometimes I use strings even when there are no strings in the original).
However, I can't imagine it's not possible to recreate the silky strings on the Kronos (though I cannot remember how it sounds like).

+1
My Korg Kronos strings blow away the string sounds of my Yamaha S90 and Fantom XR rack. If you replace gear, you will always have the problem of not finding an equivalent for <insert>...
I've never gone as far as sampling my own sound. I've used a program in the past that converts certain soundbanks (such as AKAI CD's, Native Intsruments Kontakt patches) into different formats of files (including the Fantom XR format). I've used that for bringing a decent bagpipe from NI:Kontakt to my Fantom...

+2 ... I also never used really sampling ... why not change to better sounding sounds? Then (apart from the UI friendliness) you rather could stick with your old synth

Strings in kronos are the same stock sounds the OASYS has.

I love the tape strings, play maybe 8 bars with tape strings and then bring the symphony strings in. It's like watching something in black and white and then the full colour picture sweeps in and lifts everything.
Just, something that appeals to my ears........

I can imagine that ... question is if the tape strings sound good .. but the effect probably sounds very nice.
