Switch off Ribbon Controller
I urgently wished there was a simple switch for the ribbon controller on the main controller page of each program, just allowing to switch the ribbon on or off, and that's it, no matter how the other controller and AMS mixer settings may be.
Switching off the Ribbon controller has become a constant annoyance for me, because often it's not easy to find the source of it's activity, buried in the subpages of the programs.
Take UE087 "Sour 'n Sweet" for example:
can anyone tell me how I can switch off the nasty ribbon for this Polysix synth sound? It is constantly coming in the way when I use the joystick for bending and touch the ribbon with a finger.

I can agree that more options are better than less for the most part and wouldn't particularly be opposed to this type of option to disable controllers. I think it could just lead to more tech support calls, though.
Honestly and respectfully, I would encourage you to simply change your technique in this case.
Has anyone else ever had this problem with a Korg ribbon? As you might guess, I have not.

From what I hear, I know more than one Kronos user for whom it is unlikely not to touch the vey close ribbon in heavy pitchbend/modulation movements casually.
I rather tend to regard it as BASIC functionality to be able to turn this controller on or off.
For the moment I am searching for a way to do it for this patch.
Can't be impossible, can it???

Not sure what the ribbon does in 'sour n sweet', but try the filter tab, then check filter 1 and filter 2 modulation tabs - bottom left very often is where the ribbon is activated - and hence switch-offable!

Thanks very much, cello, but that's where I searched first. It's a simple opening and closing of the cutoff. In other cases I got rid of ribbon settings successfully.
It's still possible that I overlooked a setting or subpage, since the engines have different layouts and Tabs. So if anyone is at their Kronos, a short check would be fine. I seem to be blind for the solution in this case, after sitting at the Kronos and fine tuning programs for two hours..

I couldn't agree more.
I actually thought I had a defective Kronos when I was playing with it just after unpacking.
I had my left hand resting next to the the bend joystick and playing with my right hand. Suddenly I realized that when I "leaned into" the board pressing harder on the keys, the filter cut in and completely muffled the sound in a way that definitely sounded like a bad connection.
It took me a good 10 minutes to realize that when I lean into the board my finger would move to press on the ribbon..
Felt pretty stupid after that, but at least I didn't tell anyone
I haven't learned to like the ribbon where it is - I have to constantly remind myself not to touch it and would love a way to turn it off.
I'd much rather have a cs80 style ribbon fwiw.

Got it for my patch, and it was really blindness on my side,
I didn't realise that I didn't have to go to separate pages with modulation or controller settings, but there were AMS settings directly hidden in the cutoff knob settings of the Polysix engine.
It was too simple compared to what I expected.
So: problem solved, but anyway please: one simple checkbox each patch, to switch Ribbon and vector joystick on or off the most straightforward way.

Glad you got it sorted
Sometimes, with so many options on so many screens, it is easy to go 'parameter blind'! lol

Also, there's a way to "disable" the ribbon controller, by using SW1/SW2 and set one of them to Ribbon Lock. You usually set this parameter on Controller Asignements tabs.

Oh thanks, I wasn't aware of that: means sacrificing one of the switches in a patch, but might come in handy for temporary use of the ribbon.

The ribbon on my triton studio was less tempermental than the kronos. I too have heard crazy changes in a patch or combi, only to realize that I had just barely touched the ribbon. It its also hard to get a consistent pressure on the ribbon. I would agree that a new technique has to be learned, but then we all had to learn how to use pitch wheels or joysticks at one time or another.

If it works as in Oasys (and I bet it's the case) the ribbon lock command does not disable the ribbon controller, just lock the position of the ribbon avoiding it returns to the center position when your finger does not touch the ribbon anymore.MarPabl wrote:Also, there's a way to "disable" the ribbon controller, by using SW1/SW2 and set one of them to Ribbon Lock.
