RPPR and sequencing on the M50

hello all, I'm sorry if this has been addressed before but the Forum for the M50 is HUGE and I'm getting a headache searching for this info. I have an N364 that is basically in need of retirement. I bought a Roland Juno G a couple of years ago but I hate the sequencer on it. I've been researching for a new workstation that has something along the lines of the N364's Realtime Pattern Play/Record feature that allows you to "sequence" a pattern that can than be assigned to a key and played back in tempo to the sequencer. I love this mode of sequencing and it seems like the only workstation that still uses patterns to help with sequencing is the M50. Can someone please verify for me that the M50 does indeed utilize the same pattern function as the N364. I'm definitely leaning towards this keyboard but wanted to be sure before I bought one that I would be happy with the sequencer. Also, I read that it will NOT remember a song after power is turned off without saving it to a card? Is this true? thanks!

Well, you need to save your sequence to a card. As for the sequencer, I don't know the comparison to your old keyboard. The sequencer is pretty good, but unless somebody has both keyboards it is hard to say.

I'm sure the sequencer is really good, Korg pretty much invented the workstation. I was just wondering if it allowed you to create patterns that you can then assign to different keys. When in sequencer mode you can then assign that pattern to play at whatever measure you want. For example, with the N364 you can create a very simple one measure drum or bass pattern and then assign that pattern to play on any key OR "direct" the sequencer to play that pattern for a few measures instead of creating a new pattern in the sequencer and then looping it. Make sense?

oh, and does it come with a card already or would I need to purchase one?

The M50 does indeed do RPPR. You can assign a number of sequences to different keys to trigger them at any given time .I am not sure about assigning them to the sequence from menu but I think you can.. You can download a pdf of the manuals to be sure.

I just read the section of RPPR in my N364 Manual and downloaded the PDF of the M50 and saw that you can indeed "put to track" any of the patterns on both keyboards. OK, so now I'm gonna test the sounds on the M50 tomorrow and hopefully I'll buy one! I still don't know if I'll need to buy a memory card or not to save my songs. I'll probably start sequencing right away!

You will need to buy an SD card to save your songs. Doesn't have to be a particularly large one as songs are only MIDI data which is tiny.

RPPR patterns are saved within a 'song', as are any Tracks etc on your song, so you will definitely need a memory card.

Korg's sequencer has gained features but the core functionality hasn't changed much - even in the Kronos & OASYS - so you should find all of the familiar features you are used to on your N364.

The M50 will only support sd cards up to 2 Gb in size and of the sd variety only and will not support sdhc cards just so you know in advance. You will need a card to save your work.

Did it arrive yet Bob? :D
I suppose if it did you won't be here as you could well be very busy having a whole ton of fun.
I hope you have it in your hands and if not you will not mind the wait once it does finally arrive.

yes, it arrived that next Wednesday..didn't even notice the new replies because I was busy learning! It is truly an amazing synth, I really love it. It looks really retro-analogy (is that a word?) and has some great preset patches. So far I'm loving the bells and pianos! Anyway, since playing I have come up with a new question that I've posted about time signature changes in a song. Please see the new thread for my questions. Thanks KORG forum!!!!
