Yeah, my opinion is that you don't know enough about the M50.

The M50 is velocity touch sensitive. Midi thru is merely an exact copy/repeat of Midi in, and for less than $20 you can get a midi splitter with multiple outputs. You may be confused about the difference between touch sensitivity and aftertouch, and if so, how can it really be that important to you if you don't know what that means?

The reason not having aftertouch on an M50 is probably cost ... it's a very cheap synth which has the same engine as the more expensive M3.

"Touch sensitive" is an ambiguous phrase, but can refer to aftertouch. To avoid confusion, it is best to use the terms "aftertouch" and "velocity sensitive." (And someone can certainly care about a feature even if they aren't fluent or precise in the terminology!) But you're right, MIDI Thru can easily be added in an external box. Unfortunately, aftertouch cannot!

Back to the OP, the current board that is probably the nearest thing to a descendant of your old M1 is the M3. The M50 is a lower cost version of the M3, with some features removed.

And just to clarify: The M50 keybed does not support aftertouch. But, the M50 will respond to aftertouch from an external MIDI keyboard controller.

I have a Triton Le here with aftertouch but have never hooked it to the M50 to try the aftertouch. What do you think ? I wonder if I would like it so much that I would then have to drag two boards out every day lol. How does one go about hooking the two just midi out from triton to midi in on M50 , local control on with the le and off in the M50??

I don't believe you should disable Local Control, since this will sever the M50's knobs', joysticks' and keyboard's ability to trigger sounds.

However, you can have the Triton Le's MIDI out go into the M50's MIDI in and control sounds on a channel other than the M50's global channel.

e.g., Triton Le transmitting on Ch2 - sounds that you have set up on Ch 2 will respond to the Triton Le. Assuming your Global Channel is Ch 1 and Local Control is on, the M50 will trigger all sounds on (Global) Ch 1.

Refer to pg. 84 of the Owner's Manual and pg. 224 of the Parameter Guide for more detailed information regarding MIDI and aftertouch.
