Exi question and problem

Hey. I've been working the initial, basic Exi tutorial in the Kronos parameter guide. I'm following the instructions, but no matter what I do I just can't get more than 3 voices out of my board when I'm trying for six as the tutorial says. The tone adjust light is lit, but only 3 switches will illuminate, the first 3. I'm also not getting sound out of those 3 switches, only 2. Any ideas about what gives? This is the first time I've even followed a tutorial since I got it, mostly using the parameter guides & other materials for reference as needed. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:

What do you mean with voices? In what mode are you working? (PROGRAM / COMBI).
Could you give me a reference to the page in the paremeter guide so I can look at the tutorial you mention to better understand your issue?

Rgds.

Just guessing...

If you refers to Program mode then you can have only two oscilators in a program (EXi1 and EXi2).
When control surface is set to Timbre/Parameter (not tone adjust) then you will have only 3 switches on (the 3 first at the upper left). They activate respectively the EXi1 osc, the EXi2 osc and the drum track for the specific program.

Is that what you mention?

Are you following the MOD-7 tutorial, "Synthesis with the MOD-7: a guided tour?" If so, make sure to start from the beginning and follow all of the instructions; all the sections start with a reference to creating an initialized Program. It sounds like the Control Surface is in Timbre/Track mode; with the instructions in the tutorial, it should be in Tone Adjust mode.

Hey there. Thanx for getting back to me so fast. I was working the tutorial in the param guide, pages in like 339-350 or so, specifically about using preset UF 007 to delve into EXi programming. First problem: the preset is supposed to be a patch called "Cat on a Mojo", but it isn't that when I select UF 007, its just a piano patch. When I do the tutorial I am supposed to get to the point where I can play around with 6 switches to vary the sound, feedback, etc., but I don't get that far. Is the problem that the patch is not this "Cat on a Mojo," or should I be able to get the sounds as the guide says irregardless? Thanks again....

Yes, Dan, I am. At least I thought I was at the beginning. Let me check again...

Yup. I 'm at the beginning. But my patch/preset UF 007 is not this "cat on a Mojo" as the param guide states.

"Are you following the MOD-7 tutorial, "Synthesis with the MOD-7: a guided tour?" If so, make sure to start from the beginning."

It's also useful to start with a MOD-7 patch (from User F Bank) ... :)

Thanks to you, Sparker, Idascanio & Dan, to,o for trying to help sort me out. Yes, using a UF Mod 7 preset to begin with. Dunno what's going on over here...

Don't simply use an existing MOD-7 preset. Please create the initialized Program as described in the instructions! That's why things aren't working as described. For instance, in the initialized Program as created in the instructions, the Control Surface will already be set to Tone Adjust.

Hmmm...okay, I have gone back each time using an initialized preset, specifically the UF 007 as the tutorial states. Is my problem that this preset is not "Cat on a Mojo" as it is supposed to be? Will that cause my trouble?

Dan, I initialized the preset from the outgo initially, tried again before writing to the forum. Pretty sure I'm following the details correctly, but I do not get the tone adj light on auto as I should. Maybe I really am stupid...

Aha! Thanks for this detail. Yes, that's it exactly.

I'm sorry; this is my fault. At some point in the KRONOS development, before release, the Program locations changed. I just looked through the older versions of the PDF manuals. In the very first version, "E1," the text still referenced the old location, U-F007. This was fixed in the second pdf version, "E2." The latest version is E4; when you have a chance, download the new docs from www.korg.com/kronos. In the meantime, you can select "Cat on aMoJo" from its actual location: Program I‐A 050. I'm sorry for the confusion!

Hey Dan, no problem, man. No harm no foul It is good to know that my stupidity does know some bounds, 'tho. Thanks a lot for your help. I'll re-work the problem & the tutorial & get the results I should. I kinda feel like the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz who has just had an audience with the Great Oz himself, a.k.a. Dan The Man!!! Thanks a heap, you all have a good night.
