Kronos rotary sim

After playing my Kronos for some months now, I was thinking:
For the CX-3 organ, you can set the rotary on the jostick (Y+) or on the control surface (know

. When you push knob 8 it lights up, telling you that the rotary is set to fast. But if you use the joystick (I often do this in live situations), you really need to listen to know if the rotary is fast or slow. In a massive chorus this could be hard with all drums, bass and guitars playing along.
What if know 8 was lit up when you touch the joystick? Maybe a new software update could make this happend?

For live usage, I use SW2 instead of JS Y+, so I can see immediately on the led of SW2 if the rotor is fast or slow. And this way you can use a foot switch too (I use a Behringer btw).

Is just a simple switch pedal sufficient? Or a variable pedal?

That's exactly what I do (including the foot switch!). You have to make sure mode is the opposite of what you'd use for the joystick. I'm not sure if that's toggle or moment because I'm not in front of the Kronos right now.

Just a simple switch is fine.

There are two settings, one of them is for the SW1 (moment/toggle) and the other one is for the rotor speed (also moment/toggle), I think both must be to toggle but I'm not sure ... you will find out very easily by trying and check if the light is on at the right moment.

I use a foot switch. Just a cheap sustain style pedal. In my blues band where I'm using a lot of organ sounds. For my heavy band I'm using the joystick but I think I'm going to change it to using SW-2. Sometimes in the heat of the moment I accidentally bend notes a bit with the joy-stick. Ooopsy! I'm sure that nobody but me notices but then isn't that the important part?

SW itself in controllers should be set to toggle - so that one press turns it on, and a 2nd turns it off.
In the rotary IFX it should be set to momentary - so that 127 on turns it on, and 0 turns it off.
If they are both set to toggle, then you'll have to press twice for on, twice for off. And the light will be useless.
If they are both set to to momentary, then will work as expected, and light will be on when the rotary is fast, but it will not latch/toggle
If SW is set to momentary and IFX is set to toggle, then one press will turn it fast and a 2nd press will turn it slow, but the SW will only light when it is pressed down.

Thanks for the clarification (My Kronos was switched of so I couldn't check my settings).

You can also use the AMS Mixer to set up some exotic routings and combinations of controllers to switch the rotary affect. I have set it up to use the damper pedal and the joystick when using an organ/piano layed combi.

You could easily disable the pitch bend part of the joystick on those patches.

You're right. I never actually thought of that! Duh!
Thanks Stephen!

After playing Hammond organs for over 30 years, I spent 2 weeks a while back setting up the Kronos to sound as close to a Hammond and L122 as I could.
In order to keep things consistent, I use a footswitch with an LED for the rotary speaker. This allows for no-hands toggling and you can see what status the rotary speaker is in. I also assign SW1 for vibrato, SW2 for percussion and in Tone Adjust Mode the sliders for drawbars. If you create 12 programs you can have every combination of vibrato/chorus and percussion that are on a real Hammond.
Putting these 12 programs on a set list gives you 4 more custom setting slots and instant access to all of them; actually faster than what you can do on a real Hammond. I have found that this is all the Hammond programs I need, so I was able to free up over 100 program slots.

Hi JP,
sounds interesting. Would you mind sharing your programs as PCG - either here or at
www.korgpatches.com ?

JP, that sounds like a great idea. In my blues band having that kind of control would be great. Most of what I do there is Hammond emulation.
Thanks
