Hi all
I have been analysing RAM size to see what I can load and cannot. This might be useful to you as well:
Factory installed:
Exs1 ROM Expansion I 133 Mb
Exs3 Brass & woodwinds I 153
Exs4 Vintage keyboards I 1
EXs5 ROM Expansion II 74
Exs6 SGX-1 German Grand 213
Exs7 SGX-1 Japanese Grand 216
Exs8 Rock Ambient Drums 64
Exs9 Jazz Ambient Drums 134
Totals to factory Preload.ksc 909
Extra Exs factory libraries on Kronos disk (effective size):
Exs2 Concert Grand Piano 84
Exs3 Brass & woodwinds II 215
Exs4 Vintage keyboards II 64
Commercial libraries available:
Exs10 Ricky Lawson's drums 129
Exs11 Legendary Strings 700
Exs12 Austrian piano 257
Exs13 Jazz Drums Expansion 129
Exs50 Karo Symphonic Library 154
Exs51 Karo Unison Orchestra 177
Exs52 Karo Chamber Strings 71
Public domain libraries: Sonatina strings 87
Available RAM (factory) 1075
Available RAM (incl 1Gb additional) 2013 (in my case, this might differ with other types of RAM installed)
This gives you also memory info if you unload specific libraries
Wish Korg could update Exs11 and make its RAM size smaller than 700Mb, it's really an outlier...[/list]

Thanks AdDeroo !
It is clear and useful for those of us that start on to discover we will need to upgrade the RAM soon !
Thanks again !

Has anyone got an explanation why EXs11 (Legendary strings) takes up so much memory, compared to other big libraries ?

According to this thread:
EXs11 Legendary Strings released - Now Live
- Contents: Approximately 2.8 GB of PCM samples, 128 Programs, 48
Combinations, 122 Wave Sequences
- Uses approximately 702MB free RAM

Thank you very much ... maybe I should add this table to PCG Tools so you can see instantly how much RAM / SSD space is used.

After Jerry left Korg, I kind of feel like there's more focus on money than great products. He actually could play the instruments he helped developed.
Michaelijzers - hope they recognize your effort on making a tool that actually helps us Kroson users! You're doing a great job, and I use PCG Tools a lot - it makes my workflow A LOT easier. I wish the Synquest editor could be traded for a sound library, because it doesn't do me any good.

Hi.
Some of the RAM numbers I gave are slightly different then you might find written. I used the actual figures that show up on your screen after installing them.
Also, e.g. the preload.ksc effective RAM use (909 Mb) differs from the sum of the individual parts
Also, the additional Exs3 brass/woodwinds is effectvely smaller than listed.
Unfortunately, Legensdary Strings still consumes 700 Mb RAM. There might be for sure a good reason for it. but an effort to make an update with reduced RAM needs would be helpful. It would influence at least my decision to by either EXs11 or EXs50. I really like EXs11, but its RAM size is an issue..

Thanks (please consider a donation, you also get a free link exposure if you want).
However I'm glad PCG Tools is used a lot. I guess you mean the official Kronos Editor by SoundQuest. Korg after all is a commercial company and yes, money is they major reason of doing this (although I feel they care much more for interaction with users than competitors), and they just make the best gear (at least for me and many others).

It is very cool that Jerry plays, but it's only fair to say that after watching demos from Rich and Jack, other guys that continue to work for Korg can get around the piano pretty damn well. I would guess that a good portion -- probably a large majority -- of the R&D staff are musicians themselves.
In my experience, most in the industry can play something, and many of them are truly fantastic musicians, composers, and engineers. Personally, I'm not sure why someone would be the industry without some real passion for music and sound (though I did know a couple of those, as well). All things being equal, there are other industries that require less work to make bigger bucks, at least from what I've seen.

Yes I also noticed that a lot of employees of Korg are musicians themselves (I can name a lot more).

Well, it would be a sh1tty MI company if it didn't have any musicians in it, wouldn't it?

Does this mean that I can't have say, Preload + EXs11 on a stock (standard RAM installed) Kronos?
Or even Preload + Aus Grand?

Sorry not sure if this is the right place but as regards to ram. All Kronos come with 2 gig of ram not 1 thats correct I just coudnt find that information on the spec sheet just the size of the SSD. And its expandable to 3 gig?

Yes. But about 1GB is reserved for the OS.
