Korg triton patches on Kronos

Hey everyone,

basically, i've been scrolling through my kronos the last few days, and having it next to my triton, I'm finding its got an incredible amount of the old triton samples ALREADY inbuilt to the engine. to my surprise, its even got the triton extreme PIANO in there!! (a must have for me because it cut through so much on stage, and was great for those 90's piano/strings sounds)

so after all of this, i've gathered a number of triton programs that i liked, and attempted re-creating them on the kronos. They have actually come out sounding really good, and despite them feeling a bit weird because of the weighted action on my kronos 88 (my triton being a 76 note synth action) they sounds very close, if not identical to each other!!

each sound takes me approx 10-15 minutes to program, so what I'm thinking of is recreating ALL of the original triton sounds (or as many as i possibly can) and putting it up for download here for other kronos users. i know that would have been a big help for me, and made my transition to the kronos a little easier, so i want to share this with you so hopefully those of you reluctant to upgrade because of fear that you will loose your sounds won't have to worry about that anymore.

i'll polish a few more patches up and post them here for download, and you guys can tell me if its worth pursuing or not.

thanks,
chris

Did you do Combi C008 (Dirty Organ) from the Triton Classic?

i have not yet. i would rather tackle all the programs first before doing any combinations just to keep some order in the system!!

i did however do combination I103 for the triton extreme, which is a string sound that i absolutely needed, but i had to sample in all of the multi samples because it was part of the orchestral collection, not found on the kronos rom.

if theres a program you'd like me to do, let me know, and i'll try and get it done tonight. maybe in a while, i'll tackle combis as well!!

With my Triton I mostly used Combis, even where I just needed a single sound, so as not to impact other Combis with changed Progs.

I only started converting my Triton sounds on Friday night and have a gig this coming Friday - so no pressure! I'm about 90% done.

Mostly I am happy with what I've found in the pre-sets with just a few tweaks. e.g. for now I will get away with a slightly modified "Mr Nice!" to replace C008 until I can develop (or acquire) something better.

What I have struggled to do so far is recreate a custom Arpeggiator - worst case, for Friday I can get away with playing it by hand is I only used it for style, temp and rhythmic emphasis!

It is good that the two keyboards have so much configuration in common. :-)

is the patch you want C008 "dirty drawbars"?

I'm the same, i use combination mode for everything, but i'd rather re-create all the programs so that i won't be limited to what combinations i can make/re-create.

if c008 is the patch you're after, i'll do that one as an experiment and post it up here for you to check out

That was the one! Yes please.

-I suspect that, when I'm not rushing, I will work less with Combis, but it's quite a change of process. However, there's no point upgrading unless I use the new features - or I could have just kept the X3 I stared with two decades ago!

Man....

If you could EVER "import" the Octave Brass Expression Program from TEX to KRONOS I would be able to kiss your ass :-)

Let me know if that is possible (the patching, not the kiss. LOL)

I've managed to copy over a couple of combis that I made on my Pro-X to my Kronos. It was very time consuming. All I did was program in every parameter of the sound step by step, After doing I decided it was easier and more fun to just make newer and better sounds. With more and better effects I could surpass the old sounds so much that they now sound kind of lame.

Is it really a 1:1 conversion? I would have thought the effective ranges of the filter cutoff and resonance would be different. Are there any other tweaks you have to apply to get it to sound even more triton-esque?

Not so far but I'm sure that it could work that way with busier sounds.
I'm just so enamoured with my Kronos that I don't really care if the sound isn't dead exact to the Triton. As long as it's really close is good enough for me. I've found over the years that once you get the rest of the band playing pretty much all subtlety is lost in the mix. Most of the sounds I use in my heavy band are of the Jon Lord organ type or big analog type synth pads.
I'm sure that the filters in both keyboards are different but not so much that they make a huge difference. At least the numerical ranges are the same.

I suppose that works in a band context. Personally I'm doing electronic music in a duo with a singer.

I have one particular patch that uses EXB-PCM05 waveforms and a bit of distortion but seems to be very reliant on the fairly unique HI filter character. So far no luck recreating it. It's the principal sound for one of our songs.
