After messing with the al1 and ms 20. I am let down by both.

They don't suck, but they don't do the bass sounds I like.

They do tons of other sounds I like though.

So far, mod7 is the only decent bass engine in my opinon.

Polysix is better at bass than both, strange.

I give the Access Virus a big edge on bass.

Again just give an audio example of what you are calling a good bass sound.
I am really surprised that you were not able to program a really stuning synth bass sound out of the AL1 + effects on the Kronos.

After having an example we will compare even with a real Minimoog sound (I own one).

Well, i'm a moog and roland guy for bass.

I will fiddle some more with the al1, i like all of them, man this synth is stunning, so varied, so many kinds of sounds.

I love it, by far my favorite synth of all time, but i think i will need a pair it with a slim phatty or something to get that warm full bottom end, the korg does bass good ,just not the way moogs do it.

the one thing I hate is the parameters are limited to 0 thru 99, man it reminds me of the mks80, missing lots of sweet spots.. annoying. 0 through 125 or more please, no reason for low res like this.

i know that perception of sound is really personal, but you've said this a couple of times.

Do you really think that the Access Virus is a strong Bass Synth and that it's FAT? Or did i misunderstood you?

My opinion is that the Access Virus is one of the best synths in the mid range audio spectrum, but that is extremely weak in the low end area and definitly not FAT by my standards (which is fine by me, because i have other synths to fill that low end).


Could you otherwise post an example of what you think is a fat bass sound from the virus?

The virus bass sits in the mix in the mid low end better than any other VA i have tried.

Does it do subs, yup, it also just sits in the low mids better, it sound kinda plastic but it works.

ok, but that doesn't make it a fat strong low end sound, it just shows that the virus sonic spectrum in the low end is lacking power to mud up the sound which makes it easier to use in a track. You could fill that space up with the decay of the Kick sound to create that strong end, but those aren't definitions of fatness in my opinion.

Personally i prefer the strong low ends because i could easely cutout the frequencies that are interfering with the other sounds instead of missing them in the original signal.

but again, could you post a virus sound that you consider fat?
It makes the discussion so much easier to understand what your perception of fatness is.

i find it an interesting discussion because everyone's perception of sound is different.

Virus A was awesome.

But its not fat like a moog, its the fattest bass from a VA from its time, fatter than an1x, jp8000, nord lead, radias, al1, and the super nova.

Is it fatter than an sh2? minimoog? Plugiator? Creamware minimax? Slim Phatty?

NO WAY IN HELL.

Don't forget the per-program EQ when looking for extra bass. It can take a bit to master without completely destroying the mix as high and low are shelving and not sweepable, but it can do a lot to 'define' a sound.

Furthermore, the HPF in MS20 can remove some bass frequencies in it's default position. But increasing the resonance and turning up the cutoff a little can turn it into a booming sub oscillator.

After noodling around more, i must say, the al1 is the best for snappy sounds that can tear your head off if you want them to or get supper fast and aggro.

Its snappier than the virus.

The fx in the kronos are so beyond the crap in DAWS, i love the delays so much.

So the tight setting is the minimoog, the full is the prophet 5?

I've gotten my best bass sounds out of Kronos by layering in combo mode. Also using the EQ and effects adds a lot.

I'm with Cello on this except that I'm a rock guy.

Hexfix. Are you doing dance music? Forgive me but I'm really really old. When I think of fat bass I usually think of slow bass pedals that just shake the crap out of the room. Usually Moog Taurus pedals. For bass lines I play an Ibanez 5 string.
