The title says it I want to add a click in so I know the tempo to the drum track on one of the default user programs. How do I do this?

Don't think it's possible. The only mode that has an independant click track is SEQ mode. So, you would have to copy your program in one of the SEQ memory to have a click playing along.

But, is the flashing light near the TEMPO knob not enough for you. I think it's there for the very reason you want a click. It gives you the tempo of the selected PROG. Isn't that enough?

Well, i am playing with a few other folks with no drums, and essentially, I want to start a song with the Japan Rock piano with a slower tempo (with no drum, track playing) for a worship song at church, and then bring in the drum track on that program with a set tempo (120 bpm). Because we don't have a drummer, I want the drum track to click in for a 4 count so all the band members know how fast we are about to sing / play, since it will be a tempo change from what we had been doing the last few verses for that song.

Even if I need to do some programming, I;'m fine setting it up, any ideas on how this can be done?

The simplest choice is to modify the Drum Track and then add the click, creating a new Drum Pattern and associating this new one to the Program. This won't work if you just want to start with the click and then add the rythm.

If that's the case, the next alternative may be to duplicate the Program and add both versions on a Set List:
- Version 1: has your initial tempo and the Drum Track is just the click. I think there must be a pattern with just a click. Otherwise, create one.
- Version 2: has the 120 BPM tempo and the final drum pattern.

If you really insist on using a single Program, no Set Lists and you want complexities, the we can start assuming you're using just SGX-1. Then I would add a Mono Polysix without keytracking (constant tone) and with a latched Arpeggiator synced to Tempo and having a quarter note as a base note, thus providing the click (use the shortest envelopes to get a click)

Then, when you want to stop the click, you just have to mute the Polysix, which you may assign to SW1/SW2 or a foot switch.

Excellent suggestions!! I am not set to one program, and I LOVE setlist love, so adding stuff there is fine. I think your second idea is perfect, 1 touch and I can switch to the non-click track version of my sound and jam away! It's so simple, I knew there was an easy way to do this. Thank you so much!

As I was reading your post I had an idea, can I make a new Combi with the Japan Rock Grand on one part and a click track on the second, and just mute the Rock Grand when I want the click, and quickly unmute when I want to start playing the rock grand? It's the same amount of button pushing as your second idea to switch things, so I'm just trying to see all the options I have to set this up.

The Combi approach would only be neccesary if your original Program is HD-1 (but with a single oscillator you may try the Step Sequencer to get the click, should think about this), or uses 2 EXi at once. IMHO this is less efficient because you should have to create a new Program and a new Combi, instead of just creating a new Program.

However, you may save the Polysix programming by using KARMA modules: one to control the click (use a click sound, no arpeggiator) and therefore you could assign the Drum Track normally

Comparing Combi and Seq mode, I think you should be better with a Seq instead of using a Combi

Yep, I created 2 setlist slots and did just that! For others who may need help with this process, I couldn't find a default click track on the Kronos, so I made one. I downloaded this program: http://download.cnet.com/Midi-Drum-Rhyt ... 25415.html
I then made a 1 track sound at 120 bpm with the sound I selected sounding every beat, and exported it as a midi. I then followed Jim's excellent post here:

This allowed me to make the midi into a drum track which I used in my Rock Grand sound, and it works great!
