I'm going to do a video to address your questions (too much to write).
I already had the idea I wasn't doing it right.
In short, what I want to accomplish is:
1)
Use the upper 8 pads on the PadKontrol to trigger the 8 virtual pads on the Kronos.
Save this as scene 1 on the PadKontrol.
I want to record the MIDI output of the Kronos (whatever chords I assigned to the virtual pads) in CuBase.
2)
Use the 16 pads on the PadKontrol to trigger 16 notes on the Kronos.
This is mostly for recording drum tracks. Save this as scene 2 on the PadKontrol.
I want to record the MIDI output of the Kronos (the notes I played) in CuBase.

I can then choose scene 1 to trigger the virtual pads and scene 2 to trigger the drum kit.

Big thanks in advance for the video! Image

can you use several of the korg kontrol pieces connected to a USB hub and then connected to the USB port on the Kronos?

Very informative Jamsire and thanks for sharing. I've got a nanopad2 and will try to see if I can duplicate what you showed us. :D

For some reason I didn't receive a notification of this question.

I haven't done it myself, but I'm not a hub enthusiast.

Hey Ernie,

Could you give me an ETA on this video?
I'm still not working 100% properly with the PadKontrol.

Thanks,

Yuma

You know Yuma, I was thinking again as I was re-reading your message.

Then I watched my own video again.

If you just switch to a dedicated Drum patch - all 16 pads will trigger the drums, and that should record in Cubase. That's what I did in my video.

I'll still make a video, but I will include Cubase this time instead of the Kronos editor.

Is there any difference between the white and the black PadKontrol please?

On UK ebay, white ones seem to be going at around £20 - £30 cheaper than the black ones.

OK it seems the white ones are all 2nd hand and the black ones are all new, so that's probably the reason, just wanted to check there's only one version and nothing has changed over the years.

thanks

I've tried this before. I do get sound when playing the pads (and I can record the audio of that), but I can't seem to get the MIDI data recorded.
Looking forward to the video and hopefully that will help me set it up correctly. :)

I got it to work...........................

But not really - so here we go.

1. I have spent hours trying to figure this out - please read my answers as I will not be doing a video for this, I just don't have the time as I used it up trying to get this happening.

2. The quick and dirty answer is that you'll need two long USB cables: one for the computer and one that is permanently attached to the KRONOS.

3. Recording the PADS from the KRONOS into CUBASE: padKontrol into Kronos, USB from Kronos into the computer. Set the midi in on the midi track to KRONOS KEYBOARD - IT WILL RECORD the chord notes. The midi channel is irrelevant - just set it to "ANY." Set the output for the midi data to KRONOS SOUND - AFTER YOU RECORD!! You'll hear some weird phasing if you have both midi in and midi out on at the same time (or maybe you won't - I did).

4. Recording the drums midi data from the padKontrol into Cubase to trigger the KRONOS drum kits: padKontrol into Computer via USB. Set the midi in on the midi track to padKontrol Port-A- IT WILL RECORD the drum notes based on "scene Sets" in the padKontrol. This setup is for the Drum Kits patches mainly. The midi channel is irrelevant - just set it to "ANY." Set the output for the midi data to KRONOS SOUND - AFTER YOU RECORD!! You'll hear some weird phasing if you have both midi in and midi out on at the same time (or maybe you won't - I did).

If you're doing this for a combi patch - it'll work perfectly. I personally have no problem switching from one USB cable to another. The only other solution is an update in firmware from Korg for the padKontrol or someone hacking the padKontrol.

Again, this is the best solution for now. I'm tired!
