Hi All!

My Oasys sides have scratches on them due to transportation so i would like to make the sides brand new since the rest of my oasys is mint condition.

Does anyone have experience with this and has done this before?

Are the Oasys side panels from aluminium? Any suggestions on how to repaint them?

Help is much appreciated!

I think the end caps are plastic-based and not metal.

Shouldn't be difficult to de-grease the two endcaps and spray them your desired colour/effect using automotive enamel sprays. You could then put a further layer of varnish on to offer some protection against future hurting!

I'd take the black metal mesh off to avoid blocking the holes with paint - and to keep it looking nicely black.

But I'd do a test spray on the inside to make sure the spray doesn't damage the plastic.

Haven't done it myself so can't provide any definite guidance - sorry!

To me they seem to have a plastic kernel (which is visible from the inside), but the coating appears to be of metal. The thermic capacity indicates a metal material to me (which means, it's cold when you touch it). But I could be wrong...

Hmm - mine are warm to the touch and sounded plasticy when I tapped my finger nails on it.

I have had the end caps off before and I remember them as being lighter than you think (but didn't spend time finding out if they were metal or not).

If you've touched the left side panel, while your OASYS was running, it was surely warm because of the warm exhaust air. But touch the right side panel. It should feel quite cold... And aluminium can sound plasticy, especially with this plastic kernel. I know the low weight of the side panels, which also speaks for aluminium.

Why do I waste my time posting about this topic ... It's because I really hope the coating is metal and not just plastic. I mean, plastic on a luxury item? ...

Right - took one of the endcaps off my OASYS and they're indeed metal - aluminium, so you're right Dany.

Mind you, should have known by guessing they'd be metal - we're talking quality here...

Haha you guys have me laughing out loud.

Indeed if you tap the outerside it looks like it is plastic, but when you remove the side you can see on the inside that it is aluminium.

Could it actually be plastic on aluminium?

If completly aluminium any advice on how to repaint it?

There is no plastic on the end caps. It's straight aluminum.

You can match the factory finish by using Duplicolor metallic silver paint and then follow that up with a matte clear coat. It's damn near a perfect match if ya know what you're doing. This is the course I took when I found out how much it would cost to replace the end caps and money was tight. But when I finally had the extra cash I replaced both of them for about $160. It's wasn't cheap. But this is no run-of-the-mill synth either.

If ya don't want to paint them yourselves, find a local body shop!

still in doubt if i will do it myself or have it done by a body shop.

Whilst I doubt that Korg will have every single part for the OASYS, they do still carry some stocks... it's worth a call to your local distributor and ask the question (assuming the cost is not an immediate issue).

Let us know how it goes as we all have an interest in knowing what parts are still available (sometimes I think the best way to keep my OASYS going is to buy another 'donor' one!)

I'm sure they're still in stock. Call Parts is Parts at 1-800-590-0014 and give them the following information:

If your going to do it yourself... if the inside part of the ends is the same as the outside, you should experiment on the inside to see if you get the effect you want...if all ok then do a test on the bottum part of outside to see if all ok, then paint the lot if your satisfied with what you see.

If it doesnt work in the test areas for you then you might consider a professional to do it.
