In my opinion, polyphony will always be what the developers think is reasonable. If CPUs get cheaper and faster, then fx and sounds (the software) will get better/higher quality/more complex and use more CPU power. This is exactly what has been happening since the first computers.
The polyphony is what it is because the developers felt it was a reasonable number that could be realized at a decent price. As long as you're not personally building your audio PC it will always be like that. And those of us that do, know the need to upgrade every few years if you want to stay on top of things.

Well, anyway this would be a senseful project for Heider instead of doing some kind of bugfixing for Kronos only...michelkeijzers wrote:His name is Heider and he still is around but is not allowed to make public announcements on his project.MRedZac wrote:I´m sure, we have some guys here in Forum, able to adapt the software package from the hardware perspective... yes with reverse engineering it is possible, but it means a lot of work and a lot of knowledge. I cannot believe it's possible to run the Kronos firmware (OS + system applications) on an oasys without (major) alteration.
I´m sure, that some OASYS users would be happy to spend another 1000 or 1500 Euro if they can update their OASYS to KRONOS Level, once there´s a solution offered...

Yes, that would be great, too! I thought my wishes are still too luxury … ?But with a full DAW inside, the Kronos would need a much better display, better CPU … !Yatrix wrote:Why pianoroll only ?
I would say next synth must have complete DAW on board. (Is Reaper available on Linux?) Let's put it directly into Kronos. And mouse must be supported.
Has anyone tried to plug mouse into Kronos at present ?
But is using a mouse better than using a touch screen ?

Yes you're right, but I think there is a difference between staying on top with a PC and with the Kronos. In the Kronos you have the limitation of 16 midi tracks, too! So you will never need a 32 core CPU (not even you like to build 16 super mega saw tracks .. ) … But for me that ATOM CPU is exactly the opposite. Of course, Korg gets much power out of this netbook CPU and did an intelligent programming … but still that CPU is a joke in a 9 VST Synthesizer! Nobody on this planet would use a netbook for 9 VST plugins and a DAW or?
For me it would be enough to have enough power to use that 16 tracks and 9 syntheses with really good polyphony power and without that voice stealing thing ... I build my voices not for stealing!
EDIT:
CPUs for that are still available and are used in other music hardware gear, too! So for me it would be enough to get PC technique from the present age.
And a CPU upgrade would be great for Korgs marketing strategy, too! Now, some people say, the Kronos is a Netbook … with a better CPU, that people would say, the Kronos is a PC, too! Wonderful for Korgs marketing section!
Sorry my english is not very good, so sometimes I have to edit my posts to delete mistakes!

Actually, there are joystick and SWs which could be used instead of mouse. Just need to move these controls to the right side. But is using a mouse better than using a touch screen ?
And, Korg, why we can't type letters by pressing keys when pointer is on text field !
88 RH3 keys and 50% usage of it only. That's the shame !

Well, next year KORG turns 50, so who knows, maybe a limited edition top end workstation or a revolutionary synth called the Jubilee will be released to celebrate the occasion, and perhaps in the spirit of the Jubilee KORG will decide to give a few of them away to poor European musicians who do not have a European KORG distributor which comes up with great deals and initiatives like KORG USA.
However, I would not hope for a KRONOS with simply more advanced hardware.
From a financial perspective it simply would not be wise.
You probably will have to wait until KORG is ready to release the next generation, the successor of the KRONOS.

Actually I never got an email from my distributor. Well not true but I don't want to start throwing mud.Jan1 wrote:Well, next year KORG turns 50, so who knows, maybe a limited edition top end workstation or a revolutionary synth called the Jubilee will be released to celebrate the occasion, and perhaps in the spirit of the Jubilee KORG will decide to give a few of them away to poor European musicians who do not have a European KORG distributor which comes up with great deals and initiatives like KORG USA.

It would be cool for Oasys users if they could buy an upgrade package, to bring their Oasys to a service center and the inside of the Kronos would be installed in it.

Of the two the OASYS is still the better looking one, and it would be nice if KORG would provide a hardware upgrade package.
Still, there may be financial as well as technical reasons preventing this from ever happening.
Highly likely - screen size for a start!Jan1 wrote:Absolutely.michelkeijzers wrote:It would be cool for Oasys users if they could buy an upgrade package, to bring their Oasys to a service center and the inside of the Kronos would be installed in it.

But seriously what a great idea this would have been right from the start - if Korg had made an upgrade path for the O to the K (in the same way as the K to the K-X). Fantastic idea that I'm sure many would have opted for - although financially probable wouldn't make sense other than another 3,000 users would have been able to buy the new libraries.
