We need asio driver for Kronos
Unfortunately, Kronos hasn't it's own asio driver. But WHY? Why we have to use third-party drivers? Is it possible to get "Kronos ASIO Driver" in future?

Asio is THE audio driver standard for Windows based music making.
Prediction: next someone will claim that the secondary virtual tool Asio4all does the job.
It's a great tool for limited purposes. It does NOT replace proper Asio drivers.

Actually, I've never gotten the Asio4All to actually work well with the Kronos (that was one of the first things I tried when I got the Kronos - plug it into a Windows laptop). Pops, clicks, hanging audio apps, all sorts of neat things. My ultimate goal was to run a netbook with a couple VSTs and run the audio/midi straight into the Kronos via USB. Alas, it was a fruitless endeavor.jimknopf wrote:+1

Problem with ASIO is that it's single port. You can only use one ASIO driver at a time. It would be OK if you just have KRONOS, but if you have other equipment to record digitally in DAW, you will be stuck.

Now I use kronos via optical spdif in my M-Audio FireWire 410. Works well. I tried to use Kronos via asio4all. Works well. But it would be nice to have dedicated driver with own control panel instead of generic driver which can't consider all features of specific device. For example, in specialized control panel could be settings for latency, internal global routing of kronos, etc... Generic driver, like asio4all can't do this.

If i'll need to use other equipment - I just plug my Kronos via optical spdif or analog. No problem. There are many options to connect Kronos and other equipment in one complete system.Shakil wrote:Problem with ASIO is that it's single port. You can only use one ASIO driver at a time. Shakil, that's a general Asio limitation so far, but it's still much better to work with dedicated Asio drivers for soundcards than take Asio4all as substitute software "wrapper".
Asio4all uses up CPU power, and will show some unwanted effects with heavy traffic in my experience, just like in jeebustrain's.
As far as I knwo, ALL professional Windows/soundcard solutions run with proper Asio drivers, not just the reference cards like those from RME.

ASIO is the standard for 'professional' audio interfacing on Windows. Without it, the Kronos is not 'professional'.
ASIO4ALL does not provide the timing accuracy of a true ASIO driver.
another company, Behringer, actually release USB interfaces and call them 'ASIO' when in fact they ship a specially banded version of the ASIO4ALL wrapper. This angered me so much, when I realised I had not bought what I expected.

although it would be nice for people to have an ASIO driver, personally i think it's not that important for PC musicians. Because you can't chain Asio drivers in general on a PC, probably nobody would use it. Most musicians already have a professional audio interface on their computer with their own ASIO driver.
What i think is more important is that we get a Korg 64 bit midi driver that works with the VST editor. So on my wishlist: 64 bit midi driver and a 64 bit editor.

Well, it's still cool if it works.
I used to take my Access TI keyboard into vacation or on travel, or just connect it to a notebook in a rehearsal room - and then was able to record ideas (on up to 16 channels) directly into the notebook, total TI VSTi recall and full automation included, without the need to carry any external soundcard around.
So a keyboard USB-connected to a notebook via inbuilt soundcard, by fast and reliable hardware specific Asio drivers not generating much CPU load, is probably not a bad thing.
