Getting arpeggiator to play in a sequence?

Hi - sorry if this is a FAQ!
I'm trying to record a sequence using a patch with an arpeggio pattern.
It plays whilst I record it, but when I play it back, the arp doesn't trigger, and the patch in question is static.
Any pointers most gratefully received!
