This kind of sound was never my thing before, but I'm discovering I now like that stock A-028 "J.Lorber Mark V EP w/Pad" prog that has a real EP on EX1 and a pad on EX2. My fast question is: can people point me to any other progs (stock or otherwise) that are similar? Maybe I'll like it better tweaked (such as an AL-1 pad instead of a MOD-7 pad)
Of course, I've been experimenting with tweaking the original myself, which leads to this threads lengthier optional question. Maybe I should just study the Kronos more (which is why I didn't want to request a spoonfeeding and posted the fast question above), but I can't seem to figure out how to tweak the stock prog in the way I want. I like how the VJS changes the EP's attack brightness, tine width, etc., but moving the VJS also always alters the EX2's pad in a manner that makes my ears shrivel. My first tweak would be to simply "unhook" the VJS from EX2 and leave everything else as is. I'd have thought there was a straightforward way to do this, but I've gone through pages of settings and I just can't seem to figure it out. I'm not a technophobe: I understand CC's and AMS's, but I'm guessing they can be chained together in ways that aren't 100% obvious. I assume this is simply a RTFM situation, so I hate being a dummy and asking people to do my labor for me. But if there's a quick setting or short recipe to separate the VJS from EX2 without side effects, I'd appreciate it. One side effect: when the VJS is off center, I get a portamento effect in EX2--yecch. Another side effect: the VJS sometimes causes the pad in EX2 to sound like a square wave synth, not a smooth pad, which isn't the wacky portamento effect, but hardly Lorberesque
other Progs like A-028 Lorber?

Try the "midi filtering" pages. You should be able to disable the VJS over there without affecting everything else.

Yes, your right! Had a closer look. Turns out midi filtering is only done in KARMA when in program mode. Sorry about the mix up.

There are two main sources to eliminate the VJ of the EXi2
1. On the EXi2, go to the AMS Mixer section and eliminate all ocurrences of the VJ (the last AMS Mixers have it) This will indeed take out the majority of effects, or at least the most obvious.
2. Go ahead an look on every page of the EXi2 the VJ which you'll see on several AMS. MOD-7 has the particular feature of a "Parameter Details" area, so you also have to select every parameter to see if there are other "Detailed Parameters" where you may found the VJ
Also, you can try with Program A011 (Japanese Grand + Strings) and the quick tweaks you can apply are:
- Set filter to 24 dB/Oct
- Lower cutoff frequency to 46
After doing so, copy the EXi to your program.

I did think of this, but there were so many places with VJS indicated that I didn't want to mod so much stuff without really knowing what I was doing. After your suggestion, I tried it, and it's improved. I must say, that AMS mixing looks quite complicated, but I'm not going to worry about that right now. I still have the problem of portamento when the VJS is in the +Y position. I swear I went through every EXi2 setting and set changed every "VJS" to "off," but still that useless portamento. If you have a clue what I've missed, please post.MarPabl wrote:There are two main sources to eliminate the VJ of the EXi2
