My write protect won't turn off

My write protect stays on even though I did exactly what it said to do in the manual on my Microkorg.

I hit shift+8

turn the first knob so it says off

then hit 8 again, and even tried hitting shift

but it's still on.

am I missing something?

weird. it should stay off until you power the MK off and on again... then it'll reset to the global settings where write protect is usually on.
so it doesnt go off at all when you:

shift + 8
knob: off
8
?

You have to 'write' global settings.
