using a loop in combi mode ?

Post by losthighway76 »

Hi All,

I need to be able to start a loop which plays a sound on every third of a 4/4 time signature.
I know I can use the sequencer mode for a midi loop pattern, but then I can only play one of the selected track sounds and I'm not able to use the sounds like in combi mode.
Is it possible to press a key to start/stop the loop and still be able to play the other combi sounds and using the damper pedal as normal?
(A sample loop may not be a good solution since I use it in a live setup where the tempo can change a little bit.)

Thanks in advance!

You can just copy your combi into a sequence using the "copy from combi" from the utility menu within a sequence. Or hold enter and press rec from your preferred combi and then cancel the actual recording.

Then create your looping on an empty timbre/midi channel.

It can be easily done and thats how i do it and use it, a lot of Loops in my Combis:

You work with it in Sequencer Mode and you create a User Drum Pattern/Track.
After that in Combi you use that Pattern/Loop on the Drum Track.

Well there was no other option...lol. I started doing that long ago on M3. Look at this videos here,
the Percussions are all Loops, all on DT in Combi and are all User Patterns for Drum Tracks.

I didn't thought of using the drum track for it. Thanks! :)

Nedim,

Nice videos, thanks.
I don't quite understand what your left hand was doing? Playing chords at times and not holding them also touching the chord trigger parts and not holding them yet you had chords sustaining in the background. I'm sure you weren't sitting there holding down the sustain pedal can you give me a brief on that? I understand the DT looping but couldn't figure out the damper usage? Obviously I'm overlooking something… Thanks.

Were you using the damper pedal each time you hit one of the chord triggers? (Pads)

No, what i do is similar to the PA arranger, you press the chord and it holds
on its own, no Pedal nor Hold in Program Mode. I use a KARMA Module for it
and a GE that is actually doing it. It was the biggest requirement for my M3
and Stephen actually helped me to achieve it. It is GE RT Real Time Bend
which can be found in the Real Time Category of GEs, on Kronos is on 2045.
After that all you do with RTC is just shut all the buttons off.

Thanks very much for that. Okay so it's a GE but what do you mean by turning off all of the real-time controls?

Once you selected it will work but the Sound will bend, if you go to the
RTC parameters in there you will see the RTC Switches, where you edit Scenes.

Thanks, I will check this out.
Funny, .. as I was listening, i thought to myself this sounds very much like an arranger feature… hence, a GE with arranger features!

OT: I am a little bit curious about the breath control you are using. What type is it ? Do you connect it to the expression pedal jack or other? Sorry for the stupid question but I never had the chance to get or try it.

(Edit) seems to be Yamaha bc3 with a midi converter to plug o the midi in. Right?

Yes Simur, it is a Yamaha BC3A with MIDI Solutions Breath Controller Box, they are connected to MIDI IN/OUT.
