newbie loads Austrian piano, loses German and drums
This is my first go at loading a new EXs since I just upgraded to a 120GB/3GB/2.0.2 system. When I load Austrian piano, "samples not loaded" appears at the top of my screen. I found Main>Show samples not loaded, and it says the German grand and all the drums I like to use (Jazz kits) are unloaded. Clearly, I'm confused about the basics here. What manual has the explanation for how to handle this stuff? I mean, how do you configure what stuff stays and what stuff goes when you load an EXs? Austrian piano says it's about 250MB, so I never anticipated complications with using it. Isn't there some way to have it loaded at startup? I've saved it in U-GG.
Did you choose to clear all EXs when you loaded the PCG?
Or uncheck the Preload.KSC in the global tab that hold the start up?
Reboot.
Original sounds back?
Load AP without selecting clear all
Go to the global>Ktab amazement (or similar) tab where you see Preload.ksc in a list with (now) ESX11 (or whichever the Ap is). Preload is checked to load at start up--new one isn't.
Check the new one.
Done.
Reboot and you should have originals plus the new one.

Yeah, that was totally it, thanks for the recipe, which goes into my notes. At some point I saw instructions that said "clear" as well as others that said "append" so not knowing the difference I sort of tuned it out and allowed the default "clear." I need to study the manual to understand the function of things rather than just follow instructions. For example, I don't even know what KSC or PCG mean, I just deal with patterns. What's more, even if it's not complicated, the preload procedure is so unobvious that I'd never have stumbled upon it. But not planning to buy more EXs's or mess with samples, the idea of studying that 1000-page parameter manual is kind of depressing.
I do agree that they should somehow include the option in the installer....OR when you put in your key for buying the license.
I learned it for other purposes...custom sample work...but, as someone who appreciates just sticking a new card into a board and viola-sounds, they should look at making it easier to buy new sounds and just have them auto load.
The argument would be that you can't auto load everything. So, at some point, you do have to learn how to manipulate your auto load.
Glad it worked.
I had to buy an iPad for the manual. 1500 pages...no print? Not gonna be sitting at a computer.

In case someone's future search finds this thread, here's a list of the relevant documentation:
- Install EXs = Global P0: 0-4: Sample Management (Param Guide_E5 p.765-766)
enter authorization code = Global P6: Options Info (Param Guide_E5 p.803-804)
loading and auto-loading = Global P0: Basic Setup 0-3: KSC Auto-Load (Param Guide_E5 p.762-764)
Good idea to read the manuals, since you claim you don't know what a PCG or KSC (not a fried chicken chain) are. I recommend Quick Start Guide 1st- it's a quick easy read, then hit the Operations Guide. It tells you how to get things done. This will help you ger comfortable with the nomenclature and things get easier the more you read. The Parameter Guide is more of a reference manual with specifics on the structure of things. The best part of this is all the guides are PDF, so they are easy to search. Happy reading!JimmyTheSaint wrote:Yeah, that was totally it, thanks for the recipe, which goes into my notes. No, wait, I'm not a complete n00b! I just meant to say I don't know what the acronyms KSC and PCG actually stand for. I understand their functions through experience. I did read the Quick Start Guide, and then read through the Op guide quite thoroughly a single time when I first got the keyboard. I have a technical background and always RTFM even though you know you can't possibly retain it all.
But after that, you have to hit the Param Guide, and that's just too much detail. It's a reference, not a page turner. I suppose it'll work well enough if you know what you're looking for (good table of contents), but I didn't realize my key word was "auto-reload," so no cigar and I had to post as a newbie.
By the way, I did find "KSC" means Korg Sample Collection, but a lot of searching and googling still won't serve up "PCG." You'd think there'd be a 'K' in there somewhere. Maybe it's not a regular name acronym, but stands for "Progs, Combis, and Globals"?

I agree that it is not too easy to understand how the installation of new sounds work.
It's very easy to overwrite sounds inadvertently and the manual is not very detailed related to this topic.
It would be very helpful if one of the senior users could write a little instruction for the standard procedures (e.g. installing a new pcg file).
I would appreciate that too.
