how to determine current state of bank references?

Post by JimmyTheSaint »

When I installed EXs-11 Legendary Strings into U-BB, the instructions explained on page 10 how to reassign the program bank location for the combis, which by default get assigned to U-G. I used Global P0 Basic Setup>menu>Change all bank references to set up the association U-G=>U-BB. I couldn't verify absolutely that it worked properly due to the nature of the sounds in EXs-11 and because I'm in demo mode. (The combis are wavesequences that make the string instruments sound more natural.) I wrote my changes and rebooted.

Similarly, when I purchased, installed, and authorized EXs-80 Kid Nepro Vintage Synths in U-FF, its combis went to U-G by default. So in Global>Change all bank preferences I set up the association U-FF=>U-G. I verify that it works because it's very obvious when the Karmafied combis are working properly. I wrote my changes and rebooted.

When I now go to inspect Global>Change all bank references, it reflects no changes; every bank is assigned to itself. But Vintage Synths' combis still work properly, so I wonder: How do it know? And I have no idea if Legendary Strings works properly because I don't have enough experience with these sounds to determine that by ear. In any case, the Global>Change all bank references doesn't show the Kronos's current state because it would have to reflect the fact that Vintage Synths has been remapped.

I'm misunderstanding something, right? I would think that since U-G got hit twice, then EXs-11 and EXs-80 can't both be working correctly. But how do you verify how things are mapped? Even though everything I've purchased is working, if I don't understand this, it's a matter of time until I clobber something. What am I missing here?

You can use PCG Tools to very easily find out how everythign is mapped; also you can use it to copy programs/combis where you want yourself.

That sounds really good--I PM'ed you.

So there's no "native" way to determine the current state of the Kronos's bank references? That seems like a rather bizarre oversight, given all the things the system software does.

Jimmi, the "Global>Change all bank references" page allows you to change current references. Once you have changed them, your new ones are the current ones. It does not memorize/map what changes you made before.
