Legacy - End Of the line?

I see Korg has decided to bundle the Legacy collection for free with their microKey61....

"Now, for the first time ever, the entire Legacy Suite is being offered for FREE with the microKEY61! You'll get all this:

•Korg M1 with all of the "Expansion card" sounds

•Korg WaveStation with all RAM/ROM banks

•Korg Mono/Poly

•Korg PolySix

•Korg MS-20

•Korg's MED-EX Effects Suite, featuring 19 of Korg's World-Class effects"

http://korg.com/Legacy

I'm not sure how much the MK61 costs, but I'm pretty sure it's less than I paid for the software alone....If Korg is willing to throw the bundle of the real Legacy collection and not some uncomplete LE version on a cheap controller board....What does that mean for the future of the Legacy collection?....I hope it doesn't mean that sales have dwindled to the point they are done upgrading.....There are SO many vintage keyboards and drum machines I would have loved (and paid for) to see included in the collection.....moon

I certainly hope not. I only just found the online versions recently, and happily bought the Wavestation on the spot. I have been eyeing the M1 as a possible follow up purchase ... but only after 64-bit versions have come out. If they aren't doing any more updates, then I can't see spending any more money on any of the remaining ones, and instead will be holding my breath and hoping the Wavestation keeps working for as long as possible. What a waste it would be to let such a unique and powerful instrument fade into the sunset.

Wow. Yes, a bargain. And yes, having the full suite of all-features legacy synths as plug-ins is great.

IMO: It (MK61) would make a useful studio tool - smaller footprint and can live in a niche under your work surface, but I'd hate to try to use it live. I need big ol' keys for my fat fingers. (Maybe I can put a strap on it and get a long USB cable and have an instant keytar).

Anyway, I prefer to think of this deal the other way 'round. Buy the complete legacy collection at a $20 discount and get a free 61 key controller. Not bad at all. If you were ever considering it, now would appear to be the time.

Amazon has it for $179.00 US. Presumably that will come with a form to fill out or a ser. no. / code. I'd hate to buy it and not be able to get the software - as I said, the MK61 is pretty much of secondary consideration for me.

BTW: GC doesn't show the MK61 on their web site.

having 01/w and/or Trinity in VSTi would be realy great, I'd throw away about half of my sampling libraries and vstis just for 01/w and Trinity VSTi!!!!

Come on KORG. give us 01/w and Trinity in VSTi

It will not happen.

"it will not happen"

Perhaps not.

I think the "blow-out" of the KLC is just an indicator that the 64-bit version that is more compatible with newer computers is just around the corner - and it would pretty much have to have some new (synth) element to lift it above the original version KLC.

What would that be? Either later models in single versions (T-X-Trin-01W) or plug-ins for the KLC like more/better effects, or perhaps something that would give users i-series backing tracks, a .sng & .mid compatible sequencer, or kronos/krome/m3 style drum tracks -- all of those are practical, low development cost (established content) and have been asked for by users.

(32 bit) KLC may indeed be played out. But at a certain price point (even if it's zero) there is a perception of value. If it was free would you download it? Hell, yeah!

I don't have access to sales figures, obviously, but there appears to be interest still, and that continued interest is where the value of the KLC dwells. Korg seems more than willing to tack on the older KLC version as a freebie with units that are struggling, and lets face it, the micro-key controllers need all the help that they can get.

Consumers (the impression I get anyway) seem ready to embrace both the software paradigm and digital download. The cost to Korg for on-line download is as close to zero as it is practical to get and the perceived added value is just enough to tip the balance and make the deal attractive.
