Hi -
I'm not an expert on OASYS Drum Kits but here's what I believe is the way to regard / manage them.
1. Drum Kits are setup, edited and saved separately to (and out side of) ordinary Programs - as separate entities called 'Drum Kits', saved in the OASYS's 'Global Mode'. Full instructions on how to do this are given in the OASYS Guides:
OASYS Operation Guide, Pg 164 - 167
OASYS Parameter Guide, Pg 731 - 737
On those pages you will find instruction on how to assign (drum) samples to individual keys, set velocity, cross fades, filter settings and so on for each drum sound on each key. Once set up, you save it as a Drum Kit (don't forget to make a back up of your OASYS as an "All Data" backup to capture a backup of your Drum Kits along with all other data.
Once set up, you use Drum Kits within Programs - by setting the Program Oscillator "Mode" to "Drums", and then you have full access to the Program parameters such as filters, effects, EQ and so on - though note that any changes to those parameters will affect all drum sounds assigned to individual keys. Of you set up such a program, be sure to save it to a programs slot, and again be sure to back up all data on a regular basis so you do not loose these edits.
Finally, you can then assign a (Drum kit) Programs to a Sequencer Track to record your (or Karma's) performance of that Drum Kit. Here again you have access to the Track parameters such as EQ and effects, though again you will be affecting all Drum sounds in that Program assigned to that track.
If you need to edit individual drum sounds within a song, two suggestions include:
1. Set up a Drum Kit with variants of the same sample on different keys but with different Filter / Drive / ... characteristics so you can choose the same drum sound with different sonic characteristics via different keys in the same Drum Kit. The Program and Sequencer Track using that Drum Kit will then allow for you to access the sound with different characteristics via different notes/keys on that one track.
2. Alternatively, assign Drum Kits to several tracks in the song and then use each Drum Kit for a different drum sounds soyou can EQ them on a track by track basis.
there may be better ways of doing this, as said it's not my forte, and you may do well to ask the same question on the Kronos forum or over at www.karma-lab.com where you may get many other useful suggestions.
Good luck.
Kevin.
