Best way to stop Karma?

Post by uhura »

I wanna try a live performance with Karma and one of the problems is a good way to stop it. Best solution would be a one bar "Outro", but this seems not to be an easy task. Is there at least a way to stop Karma at the next bar?
Then i would trigger for example a crash cymbal manually.
Can't find a solution in the previous posts.
"Scene Change Quantize Window" only affects changing of scenes, not stopping them.

In your live situation it is not possible to hit the Karma button? It`s a bit of coordination training to do it in the flow of a tune, but it's feasible.

But I could have misunderstood your question

Therre are multiple ways to do this, but the most easiest one is the following:

in combi mode:
- press the karma tab
- press the Perf RTP subtab
- select Mix for the Group dropdownlist for rows 1 till 4 (4 karma modules)
- select Run for the Parameters dropdownlist for rows 1 till 4 (4 karma modules)
- Select checkbox A for row 1
- Select checkbox B for row2
- Select checkbox C for row3
- Select checkbox D for row4
- Assign SW1 for row 1 in the Assign section
- Assign SW2 for row 2 in the Assign section
- Assign SW3 for row 3 in the Assign section
- Assign SW4 for row 4 in the Assign section

Now you can start stop the separate karma modules for every scene, so just setup each scene which karma modules are running or must be stopped

I have done something similar but it's requires manually selecting scenes and very good timing.

1. Set Quantize Window to 4 bars or whatever you like.
2. Setup scene 1 as the main scene
3. Setup scene 2 as the outro
4. Setup scene 3 with all karma modules stopped (silence)

Start playing with scene 1 active. When you want to start the outro select scene 2. When scene 2 starts select scene 3.

Your outro in scene 2 will continue for 4 bars, switch to scene 3 which is silence and you're done.

Even though there are lots of ways to stop KARMA, the real problem (to me, anyway) is that none of them are very musical - they just stop abruptly, cutting off any notes that are playing...I'd like to be able to have ritards, hold last notes, etc., just like real musicians (and arranger keyboards) do...you can always turn the tap tempo knob down, I guess, and push the KARMA OFF button at an appropriate time, but that's not so easy to do musically, either...

The bottom line is that KARMA on the KRONOS isn't supposed to be an arranger, so it doesn't do the things (like endings) that an arranger would..which is too bad since it seems like they would be very easy to add (see my post to the KARMA labs forums at http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/attachme ... 1340138758 ) since KARMA already has the capabilites...but then again when it comes to making even very small changes to complicated in-production computer-based systems like the KRONOS, nothing is simple...

Thanks, problem was that i didn't find out how to make an "empty" scene. Looked at all KARMA sub tabs but now i saw that i just have to disable all Module Run switches on the Play -> KARMA GE tab for one scene (if they are assigned as QuiRobinzes explains).

Another useless opinion...

FWIW, and this doesn't really solve the issue for you... But I took the foot switch and assigned it to turn Karma off.

...which is NOT meant as a facetious answer, because right off the bat, you'll realize that the drum tracks, if part of the Combi, just go right on playing. :( And you are entirely correct about the retardando's, etc.

SO, as a corollary question- is there any way to get the foot switch to turn off Karma, Latch, and the Drum Track all at the same time?

Do you mean me? For me its perfect. Karma and Drum Track are stopping at the next bar so i have my hands free for a manual Outro. And I can use my pedal for other purposes.

You can linke each KARMA module to the Drum Track.

1. configure the foot switch to turn Drum Tarck on/off

2. link the desired KARMA module to the Drum Track (under the KARMA -- Trigger tab)

concerning Latch, I think you still have to toggle that manually

You should also be able to turn off the drum track on the KARMA scene matrix page using the "Drum Track Run" parameters.

Ksi: Thanks, I'll try that!

From your response, I gather that this needs to be done on a per-Program / per-Combi basis?
