Change of setup

After ages with my korg trinity pro and fantom fa76 I finally changed setup...or better, I replaced the fantom with a new v-synth gt 2 and I got a kronos 73....my trinity will be always in my setup :)

Few questions after a couple of hours with the kronos:

  • I noticed that the volume of the sounds are lower than the trinity and the v-synth, is that normal? I mean, is not that lower but I was expecting something more.
  • Is there any easy way to make the kronos to read the trinity's pcgs?
Somethimes I need to use only the kronos but I have all my sounds programmed on the trinity, do I have to re-program everything? In this unlikely second case, how difficult is? I mean, I know quite well the trinity but the kronos looks like much more powerful, but much more complicated....any tip how to program trinity's sounds on it?
Cheers

I wouldn't worry unless it's an unworkable level. My boards are all a little different.

The Kronos doesn't read Trinity PCGs (though it does read its KSCs if you use custom multisamples) and the general opinion on here is that getting a new board is great incentive to improve on your old sounds rather than reprogram them. But if there are some you really need you should be able to remap almost all parameters within HD1. The Kronos should have most of the Trinity's samples or comparable ones, and HD1 is basically just a more advanced version of the Trinity's engine.

If you have the Trinity MOSS/Solo-tri board you may be in trouble though cause not all those engines are present in Kronos (technically none of them, but "improved" versions of a few are there).

Thanks a lot for your reply.
The difference in absolutely not huge, I was just a bit perplexed because I was expecting improvements also on this, but it's more than usable :)

Related to the trinity, actually almost 100% of the sounds I use have been programmed by me (just classical pianos or strings are slighty modified but all the rest are 100%custom) and many of them use the Solo-tri :(

Ok, time to work hard on the kronos and the v-synth :)

If you have many analog patches use AL1. It doesn't look that different from the MOSS standard oscillator.

Just hope you don't use the bowed string or wind types a lot.

Great thanks......none bowed strings, some use wind....well, as you said, time to renew some sound ;)

Well you can reprogram most of them, you will be missing the Bowed,
Brass and Wind Models and i know people will tell you you already have
sampled EXs of those on Kronos but trust me, its not the same thing, its
100% different and no, they won't sound like on the Trinity.
As Sander sad, the rest is easy with AL-1, almost the same as standard OSC.

I miss my Triton/MOSS wind osc type!
Didn't use the bowed string or brass much to be honest, and the rest is an upgrade for me in the Kronos. But the wind one really is a shame to have to miss. Oh well, a good reason to keep the Triton around at least in the studio I guess.

I spent a couple of days to reprogram part of the sounds I did for the trinity on the Kronos.....well, they sound similar but not the same (and this is normal) but what it's weird is that the ones on the trinity sound more alive, bright and defined.

I tried also to reduce the size of some effects but they always sound less defined on the kronos...don't know how to explain....and mainly when played together with the band.

I will spend more time on it, any suggestion is welcome.

Could it be the EQ? I think the Trinity, like the Triton, had a pretty harsh and overused master EQ.
