Yes, please go buy a brand new motor car and then buy a new motor too so you can drive it, oh, and becareful not to move it otherwise the wheels will pop off.

Dont buy anything yet, wait till MusicMesse.

SynthMan65, I know what you mean. I do think some of the guys here are right that there are fewer problem boards out there then ones with no problems. I also think your point of view of negative publicity is spot on. I still want a Kronos but still haven't bought one. A lot of money for a board with various maybe maybe not issues. No doubt it is the most powerful amazing workstation ever but the negatives do give a person pause when this level of cash is involved. The upside is there are a lot of helpful people here that really know the Kronos so you will get all kinds of help if you buy a Kronos. Personally I am shooting for the end of the month. I haven't decided on a 61 or 88 but I just got a hell of a deal on a Roland rp301rw which has a Keybed I really like! So now I can go 88 and not worry about being without a keyboard if it is a problem or to 61 and just midi up to it when I want the piano action! Truth is I still want an 88!

Well, indeed, there has been.

You can find some in this forum alone.

I'll admit it took me 3 tries to get a good X88 board, but I'm glad I did.
3 months of superbness (Is that a word?) for me so far.
Every single day I use it I find more to be amazed about sound wise, and some things to be disappointed about. Everything has its own flavor.
Well worth it.

I love the response from Marpabl lol. That says a LOT about the quality of the Kronos keybed.

A workstation with setlitsts etc designed for using on stage should be able to be transported without having to worry about which way up it is or without fear of things going out of alignment.
+1

I'm the original poster for this thread and the youtube video...

I've had lots of suggestions as to what could be wrong with that F# key... but what about that Bb?

Thanks.

So the solution I proposed didn't solve the issue?

When "recalibrating" the keybed, you must be very careful to get equal separation between every single key and the front base. Otherwise, you may find that those noises will be solved for some notes, but may appear in other notes.

And yes, I also think the quality of the keybed is big crap. I've actively participated on the threads about this issue. After 3 Kronos I had (88 keys), I got the last one fixed but waited months for that. And this "recalibration" thing is annoying, but required. I've even faced issues where some keys need more force to be pressed. "Luckyly", those issues have been solved by applying the solution I pointed out.

In the interest of fairness though, personally, when I tried one of the 88 Nord stage pianos last weekend,

While the Nord reliability/quality is reportedly very very good, I found the feel of the Nord to feel very cheap and plasticy compared to the Kronos keybed.

I don't think I would like playing the Nord after playing the Kronos.

I've read nothing but good reports of the Nord, so wondered whether it was me. But last night I read the following on Piano worlds forums ( I know that many of piano forum members aren't normal when it comes to keybeds :) )

A couple of comments on the Nord Piano 2 HA88

http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthre ... 7/gonew/1/
As for the keybed, there are definitely issues with it, but I think they're overblown by people. The keys are annoyingly noisy (really wish that Nord would put some sound dampening material in their boards to reduce that, surely they could do that without adding much to the weight or expense). But that's really not much of an issue if you have the sounds up at normal volume (if your wife is trying to sleep in the next room while you're playing with headphones on, it might be an issue though
The controversial key-bed. :-) The action of the keys (how fast they respond) seem to fit right in there with all the others IMO. Every key-bed feels different even on real pianos. The part I DO NOT LIKE is the noise of the keys. The clack, clack of the keys while playing could be distracting or annoying to others. I must say that this takes away from the professional craftsmanship of a professional $3000 stage piano. Is this Nord not listening to their customer base? I have heard this complaint posted all over the internet for a long time and Nord has lost customers because of it. It had me on the edge for awhile as well. So what led me to purchase this? It was the library plain and simple........................................

EDIT: I have seen people mod the Nord by using a small strip of felt or similar product to eliminate the clacking. It is a simple and easy mod, though I am sure opening the the case will void any warrantee.
Maybe it's simply too expensive in this climate for companies to put top end keybeds on their machines as it would push the prices through what most people are prepared to spend?

I'm not trying to excuse any company here, just that it seems many are saying similar things about the feel and clukyness of the competition too. And I was genuinely surprised about how cheap the Nord keybed felt after the Kronos

I didn't want to take any chances on voiding my warranty. I did contact my Korg Service Center (nearest one) and I send him a link to my video.

This was his response.

"It needs new felt and that requires a full disassembly of every key. "

3 week turn around. This guy has done awesome work for me in the past!

said out if it WAS out of warranty it would cost about $400 for the repair.

said the more you play it the better (i play my Kronos EVERY day though... )

the more you play it, it keeps the sponge from dry rotting...

WOW my Kronos is JUST over a year old and gets played dang near every day and I have a possible dry rotted sponge (felt) for my keybed.

400 to replace that felt strip?! I bought one for my Triton Extreme for like 25 euros I think and that included shipping. I thought that was pretty expensive for what it is. Haven't gotten around to installing it but it's not rocket science, I've done a few small jobs on my Extreme before.

that's what it would cost out of warranty. he said that the repair would require a FULL DISASSEMBLY OF EVERY KEY.
