Strumming Guitars

Post by digiplay »

Does the Kronos have any strumming guitars anywhere?

I'm a Kronos man now, but I come from a MOTIF XF7 and it had lots of them that came from its ARPs.

Yes, check STR-1 Programs and activate KARMA. You'll find many strumming patterns and you have flexibility to make changes in realtime.

However, Motif XF is better than Kronos regarding guitar arpeggios because of the several articulations (XA) and velocity switched waveforms for the guitars (megavoices). Indeed, this has always been a strong point with Motif XF.

Yes Mar but also keep in mind that Kronos actually lets you Strum in realtime,
doing your own Strums the way you want, not just arpegios.
Motif can not dream this:

True... linked to this before but hey it's a great piece of programming using stock Motif waves; not a bad alternative. Great fun to play with BTW... even my guitar buddies get a kick out of it. Check out the Hard Rocking Metal clip... and btw yes you can vari-strum but I just think like a geetar player and finger/strum the chords idiomatically - sometimes idiotically as well

Guys,

Those are indeed impressive Videos!

That being said, Mar might be right about what he initially said in regards to the MOTIF.

The featured videos are of Rock Guitars, but I want to find some Acoustic Guitars strumming.

On the MOTIF, I was able to play the Jose Feliciano song "Chico and the Man" (a GREAT Chord progression, btw! Check out the song if you've never heard it) and you would have sworn old Jose was playing it!

Before anyone gets mad about me saying good things about the MOTIF, remember that I am a Kronos man now, but I'm just giving the Devil his due!

Try the combi C-039 Gentle Guitar, activate the karma, press a chord and use the ribbon.

Strumming Guitars

Post by lotty1 »

People say that the worst samples on the Kronos are the Guitar ones but those people have not played with the guitar sample on the Kronos.
I was the proud owner of a Gibson guitar and the Kronos guitar samples blow me away every time I play with them.
So please don't nock the Kronos guitar samples until you have experimented with them. :)

You can apply the Strumming/Guitar Mode to any Guitars/Sounds,
you can Strum Synths if you like.

In fact try a real guitar and plug it in through say a roland midi converter and feed the output into a kronos that is just amazing what you can do. See youtube for examples. :D

That is cool!!

What Program (or Combi) did you use?

Also, am I correct in that your right hand is strumming and your left hand is forming the chords (just like a guitar is played!)?

How do you access the Strumming/Guitar Mode you refer to?

Read this tutorial: KARMA 2: Expressive playing with manual advance and direct index

Regarding Motif XF, I still think the arpeggios are better. You have posted some great examples, but the guitar experience on Motif XF is not just about the arpeggios: the very same Voices are designed to have articulations and natural sounds for an acoustic guitar which are played by the arpeggio based on rules and velocity to deliver a great strumming experience.

You don't have many possibilities regarding articulations with HD-1 because it has just 2 Oscillators, compared with 8 Elements on AWM2 and with more complex rules to decide realtime which one to play.

So, in order to make a comparable guitar Voice on Kronos, you should have to create a Combi and to add more samples in order to emulate the articulations.
