I have recently acquired a korg Kronos 61 and am pretty thrilled at all it can do. As a previous oasys owner the idea of a kronos editor is a pretty nice thing.

I have installed the editor and korg usb midi driver (latest ones I could find) on my computer - Win 7, 64 bit soundslate pro. The midi driver seems to be working - I can see it in hardware devices in the control panel and it knows that a Kronos is connected to it.

When I open the kronos editor - it scans all the available midi ports but doesnt find the Korg USB midi port, it does find the Jupiter 80 and edirol UM-1 port so it does find other usb-midi ports.

What am I doing wrong - do I need to go into the registry and flush the midi devices allocation so that it can find the Kronos - I do have a lot of midi devices showing up in the editor.

The Korg usb midi driver only works in either 32 bit mode or 64 bit mode and it can't handle two apps in different modes at the same time. If you have a 64 bit app open that's accessing the driver the editor wont work since it's 32 bit.

If you have any other open apps try closing them first and then try the editor.

Thanks for the tip - but it was the old ten devices limit in windows midi that was the problem.

Even thought the korg usb driver (1.1.4r3) was installed correctly and reporting itself in device manager as working correctly and it knew that there was a kronos on the end of the usb, it would not work as a midi driver should.

This was the key to eventually getting it going.

I found many references on forums where people claimed this 10 device mess had been fixed but that is not the case.

The clue that made me consider this was that midi ox did not see any korg midi inputs or outputs until I cleaned out the multiple entries in the registry.

Took me half a day and some consternation to over come but we got there. I wonder if this is the reason that some are going to the ipad as an editor host - less legacy OS mess than windows to deal with.

It's good to know (actually bad to know) that the 10 device limit is still there. I had thought Microsoft took care of this. After a lot of Google searches a lot of articles seem to confirm that the limit is still there in Win 7 and 8. A few articles say the limit is 32 but who knows for sure.

I have not seen any article published from MS that explains all of this so I guess MS doesn't take music production seriously. Time to start looking at a mac.
