I was looking at the Soundquest site and saw the upgrade to the free editor from Korg is minimum $219 and it gave me an idea...

What if we could get enough folk on the forum here to get together and form a buy group to all buy the editor...

If we can present to Soundquest a big enough group it might mean they can give some generous discounts...

The paid for editor gives full VST support in 64bit, plus a few more function on first look. I have not gone "in-depth" on the specs as yet...

Personally I would not pay $219 for the editor but I would consider perhaps $120 - what do others think?

But in the first place I'm really sour, that we should to pay so much to get a nowadays absolute standard feature like 64bit support. I normally belong to those who are ready to pay and rarely quarrel about that. But in this case I really have to rethink, if I am willing to buy ANYTHING from a Korg/Soundquest cooperation, which is corrupted by that kind of bad behavior.

From my view 64bit support should be clearly, and without any question, be part of the free editor. Anyone who wants other goodies of the bigger Soundquest package pays for them, that would be ok. I might even have been one of the latter.

But I am far from accepting this behavior, neither by Korg nor by Soundquest. We waited long enough for something which was advertised as part of the original Kronos package, and came one year later. Now 64 support is the least thing(!), which this in many ways limited editor should offer all Kronos owners without extra fee.

Yep I can only (sadly) agree totally...at the BARE minimum 64 bit should have been built in.

And the editor/kronos synergy is well, ordinary at best...

I have another important question about MidiQuest XL.

I checked their website (ftp://soundquest.org/) to see the supported keyboards (you need to install a specific .sqz file for the keyboard you want to use) and to my surprise KRONOS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

I sent an e-mail to SoundQuest 10 days ago asking how I could upgrade to MidiQuest XL if Kronos is not listed, but they did not answer.

Any thoughts?

I'd rather pay money to someone or someplace that DIDN'T release poorly written software in place of a working product so that you'd buy the fully working version to get what you were originally promised. I don't see that as a Korg problem, I see it as a SoundQuest problem specifically. I'd assume such an endeavor is possible, if one could talk to the right people, sign the right NDAs to look at the Kronos' inner software workings. Then again, I could just be hopelessly naive.

Someone from soundquest announced it for perhaps December 2012 here a while ago. About two months later we still don't see any trace. Does that sound familiar?

Here it is different. They did not just announce it, they are SELLING UPGRADES. I wonder if anyone has purchased the upgrade and discovered if Kronos is supported? (although Kronos is not listed in their supported keyboards)

Jim I think pfrocha is mistaken.

If you follow the link from the editor the Soundquest shop CLEARLY specifies the upgrade editor for the Kronos...

Actually, we haven't replied because we didn't receive your email.

Midi Quest 11 will include the Kronos editor. The Kronos was/is so much more sophisticated than any other instrument that we have supported, it was necessary to add a lot of new functionality to the software. As a result, Midi Quest 10 is not capable of running the editor.

So, yes, you can upgrade to Midi Quest if you would like.

If someone buys 10 now will they get a free upgrade to 11 (only Kronos buyers of course) ?

And would you guys look at discounting IF we can get a big enough group together?

No. Sound Quest has never stated a release date for Midi Quest 11. The last time we announced a release date for a new Midi Quest version more than a month ahead of when it was actually released was some time in the early '90s.

Sound Quest has always provided free upgrades to recent purchasers of Midi Quest when there is a new release. We typically also offer two levels of discounted upgrades based on purchase date. While I can say with certainty that we are now within the time period when the price of the upgrade will be discounted, we have not yet decided what purchase dates will qualify for a free upgrade.

Regarding discounting, let me preface this by saying we are already offering an almost 20% discount on Midi Quest XL to existing Kronos owners. Beyond that, yes, I expect something could be arranged if the numbers are right.

To be clear, yes, Sound Quest is offering upgrades to Midi Quest for those who are interested. At this time, however, Midi Quest 10 does not support the Kronos editor.

Thanks - I would be hoping for something fairly substantial in the way of a discount...after all you guys have already been paid a licence fee from each Kronos sold for the free editor...I really cannot believe you just GAVE it to Korg

As a by the by, is there any way you can either post here, or give a link to specific information on what we actually get for buying the upgrade in the case of the Kronos, apart from 64 bit support?

FWIW I reckon it is really cool for you to take the time to get involved
