Types and size of SSD and RAM supported

I was thinking to upgrade my kronos by myself, what is the maximum supported size of SSD and RAM?

More, is there some king of RAM and SSD that don't work?

Any suggestion what SSD and RAM to use?

Thanks a lot!

Only 1GB of additional RAM is supported. As for the SSD, you'll probably run out of wallet first ;)

There is no need for a huge disk anyway unless you expect to do lots of multitrack audio recording. If I had a hundred extensive samplesets of long streaming samples like Busch's clavinet, I would still only need like a 40GB disk, and that's if I didn't use any space on the other disk. Get something affordable.

Do you know if it's limited strictly to SSD or is it possible to use a mechanical HDD like from a notebook?

I think that is a very good question. I bet they have the bios set to only accept an SSD -- or not, if your lucky. Try installing one and see what happens. You could call Korg support and ask them.

Contacting Korg may provide an answer....then they will suggest using a service center for the install..... :)

You'd probably run into problems streaming samples. It'd be ok for a couple maybe but the whole streaming is based on the speed of SSDs.

I agree with SanderXpander 100%

The reason you can 'stream as you play' so efficiently on the Kronos is because they aren't limited by the speed of mechanical disks

Thank you very much.
So "only" 1 GB of ram, it's a pity.
About the SSD yes, I know, but was asking only to check if there is any non supported ssd size, so I get the max size I can afford without risks of incompatibility? :)

Can you folks suggest me what kind of RAM I can use?
I'm completely new in hardware stuff.

This is what I used. It works great.

thank you very much :)

Any suggestion also for what to check in the SSD? Has to be SSD, SSD II, SSD III? Do they have different speeds? How I can check?

Sorry for these stupid questions :)

SATA III isn't supported, at least not speedwise. Korg over here recommends the Intel 520 series. People on here have installed the OCZ Vertex and Agility series with success, so far up to sizes of 256GB I think. There shouldn't be any reason why a 512GB disk wouldn't work, if you feel like paying that much.

Thanks a lot.
I was thinking actually 120 or 256 GB but was reading old posts and somebody stated that with the old version of the OS it was only supported until 64GB and I found anything related these kind of limits for newer versions.
More, I read also tha some SATA III SSD are supported but not all (SATA III should be retrocompatible by default but actually I read not all work on the Kronos).

Thanks, I'll go for one that it's confirmed working then :)

I was gathering information on the SSD you suggested me and I was checkind the read speed.

The OCZ Vertez has a read speed of 285 MB/s
The OCZ Agility has a read speed of 275 MB/s
The Intel 520 has a read speed of 550 MB/s, almost the double.

Does this mean that for streaming the samples is better the Intel?

IIRC the SATA supported on the Kronos only supports up to 300MB/s anyway. Which is still a ridiculously high speed. Nobody who installed an OCZ has reported any problems. But, Korg recommends an Intel 520 and that's what they put in mine.
