Convert Kronos to Oasys

Now some of the kronos are coming up to 3 years old and out of guarantee
If you were able to obtain a Oasys body shell. Would you be able to put all the electronic from a kronos into an oasys
1) would everything fit ie motherboard and keybed
2) would it be possible to connect all the sliders and leds
3) Fit Kronos display to Oasys and make it moveable

The reason I ask this is that the Oasys is a much better made synth
The body of the Kronos may not last very long
Also I would not sell the end product so not to worried about the financial loss.
I realise this idea is a bit off the wall, I would be very interested in your thoughts :?

I had the same idea. Not sure if it would actually work though.

sounds like a huge undertaking. I mean has anyone actually opened up a Kronos and an Oasys to see whats inside? I think you should hunt for pictures like that or maybe there are service manuals . I think anything is possible

I am thinking about the cost associated with it...geez...

Just buy an Oasys and expand it.

Or get a heavy controller to run the Kronos.

ah a controller that sounds like a better idea and use the actual Kronos as a giant rack or maybe you can pull the keybed out and condense it into a box and use a controller. pretty crazy ideas for sure

announced/intro'd at Jan.2011 NAMM. I think they had preproduction models on the floor, like a 61 key

started shipping June/July 2011 here in the US

I recall some named musicians had their Kronos earlier than the US shipping date

My guess is that we will see a replacement model Jan. 2014

OASYS has much bigger body so anything inside a Kronos would have the room to fit in an OASYS.

Why change the keys? Keep the O keybed - not one recorded issue (at least judging by this forum).

Am not sure the proportions of the PCBs would be the same (ie sliders, LEDs, etc). Again the Kronos is smaller, so Korg had to make everything fit the smaller frame.

Again, why change the screen? The O's screen is bigger. The question is whether the system would recognise it and display everything correctly.

Overall, an interesting notion however!

Actually Kronos is not even 2 years old, not 3...i was one of the first in the
USA to have one and it was in June of 2011 i think.

It would make the Kronos too heavy again for my taste....

I remember someone here on KorgForums had an accident with a Kronos 61 and tried to create a Rack version from it. Not sure about the results though.

While the Oasys screen is a bit bigger, the Kronos screen has a higher resolution and a different aspect ratio, meaning that what's on the screen might not necessarily line up, as the proportions would be different. This is not a big deal on something like a PC (or an Android phone), but quite a different situation with a device built to only have a single resolution (like the Kronos).
