Purpose of Korg MIDI driver on a Mac?

What's the purpose/need for the Korg MIDI driver on a Mac?
I remember having some trouble with my previous Mac (or perhaps with trying to use some plugin to control the Kronos) when I tried to use that stuff and had to get rid of it.

Is there any reason why the Korg editor/librarian can't just work with the standard USB interface drivers on Mac?

Is there an issue with that? Most external USB equipments require their own specific drivers.

I don't know if there's an issue --- that why I'm asking the question.
Last time I installed drivers from Korg, about a year ago, I had much grief on my laptop and had to uninstall them to get my laptop to behave again.

I plug MIDI devices directly into USB ports all the time without the need for special drivers.

It may recognize it, but not sure it will respond correctly. I have the korg drivers installed on my mac and never had a problem with them.

The Nord Sound Manager, for example, which has similar functionality for Nord products, does not require special USB drivers on a Mac

Many newer USB enabled keyboards are CoreMidi compliant, which means they don't need drivers for a Mac i.e. Plug and Play.

But both my Fantom X and Kronos require drivers to work with a Mac... it's just they way things are.
