Hi Fellas,
Just got a Trinity Rack. I know the back of the rack has a Host connection but I need a mini midi cable on one end with a USB connection for my computer on the other.
Does anyone know what I should specifically ask for from Newegg or Ebay? I'm going to be using Trinitro

?!?
Mini midi?
(Standard) Midi to USB interface would be a black box or possibly a cable with a "wart" in line to change things as needed. M-audio made one that had MIDI in/out at one end and USB at the other.
Look for MIDI/USB at NewEgg and sort for cheapest to see what's available.
May run from as chap as $20/30 to several hundred depending on capability.

Hey Bill,
If you check out the rear of the Trinity rack you'll notice that the Host connection that connects with the computer is a smaller version of your regular Midi In/Out connection. That's what I was refering to.

Hello,
I would recommend to use standard MIDI connections in place of that TO-HOST connection, because the MIDI protocol is standard.
I fear you won't have a recent TO-HOST driver.

This is a RTFM moment I'm afraid -- there may be some info there about what it is or could possibly do.
I've seen very little in the way of discussion for the "to host" interface. I think it may be a printer type serial interface, and as such, could be used as a data interface, possibly including MIDI or programming or even a larger display. But I don't know if that is an automatic function or what type of port (format, pin number/wiring, etc.) it might have been originally intended to connect with.
And that is the main rub; the Trinity's "to host" is a 20-some year old computer interface that would appear to have been "obsolesced" by USB, while standard 5 pin MIDI in/out/thru remains the baseline standard for the instrument end, so you can readily find MIDI, USB and MIDI-to-USB adapters in several formats, but I've not seen anything in the way of interfaces or adapter cables that use that mini-MIDI connector.

Yup, this is a simple serial connection, that you could connect with any serial cable, but you need the software to use it as a MIDI connection.
Too much work for almost nothing, a ESI Midi Mate II costs only 20 EUR and works on any OS.
